Previous uterine rupture ttc

This is my first time on here, sorry if I’ve made a mistake.
I’m an older mum nearly 40 and I’ve been lucky enough to have two healthy sons so far, one is 23 months and one is 5 months and both were meant to be delivered by elective c sections due to my previous history. With my last ds they delayed my c section by a few days as they were busy and I went into labour before my delayed date (also had covid ) and so needed an emcs but when they were operating they found I had ruptured my c section scar. We’re trying for a third on the off chance we’re lucky enough but I don’t want to place additional risk on the baby. Any ideas how I can minimise the risk of another uterine rupture. Ideally I know waiting longer would make more sense but I don’t have the time. I would be firm with my c section dates this time for sure but is there anything else I could do to minimise risks any more?

Sorry OP I didn't think it was recommended to attempt another pregnancy after a uterine rupture? Have you discussed this with your doctor/surgeon who did the c section? Especially as it's only been a few weeks? Would you really want to risk leaving your young children motherless? Sorry to be blunt about it - I nearly died giving birth to my twins x

When I had my last c section the surgeon said afterwards it was extremely close to rupturing. She said further pregnancies would be very risky. In fact it was her words that persuaded previously reluctant dh to go for the snip.

You need to access a debrief or consultant review with your maternity services to determine suitability for another pregnant/birth. With the complications you describe, you may be advised not to have another pregnancy.

To get pregnant now so soon after a scar rupture would be seriously risky. The uterine scar would have already had to have been so thin to rupture, and your body has had no where near enough time to heal. WHO recommended 18-24 months gap. I understand your situation and saying that you haven't got time on your side. You seriously need to reconsider this and discuss with a consultant obstetrician if you can

I'd stop trying and ask to speak to your consultant. You're very lucky to have your own health and two healthy boys, especially after such a serious complication. Don't risk what you already have trying for a lucky third until you have fully discussed the risks.

I think with all the risk factors and 2 healthy children, you should quit while you're ahead. Crazy to risk your life and the future of your children for a completely unnecessary third child.

Yup

Thank you. I did not have a complete uterine rupture which is associated with more risk, I had a partial rupture which was verbally mentioned to me in theatre but is not written in the notes or to the GP.

Thanks to all who responded, you’ve given me a lot to think about and to research.

I have done some further reading and in case anyone is interested, it seems to be quite a tricky one as recent research into the risks of pregnancy after a complete uterine rupture are lower than previously thought.

In summary from the March 22 study: “Pregnancy after complete uterine rupture holds an 8.6% risk of repeated rupture. Cesarean section should be planned before onset of labor. Managed promptly, serious adverse maternal and fetal outcomes are rare.”

Definitely more thinking and reading to do for me I think 😊

I ruptured in May whilst attempting a VBAC. Mine was a complete rupture along my c section scar and down the left side of my uterus and into my cervix. They told me that if I wanted more children to wait at least 2 years to give my body time to heal and a c section would be scheduled at 36 weeks to minimise the chance of labour starting. They also mentioned that there really isn’t much information regarding future pregnancies so the statistics are rather vague. If you are on FB there is a support page Pregnancy and Birth after Uterine Rupture they offer lots of support for mums having babies after rupture and tips etc!
