Have got a real memory block on this one and it seems to be such a basic question nobody else seems to be asking it

CD1 is the first day of my period, yes?
So this would be Dec 8th
CD26 is the first day of the next period
this was 2nd Jan

Is this a 26 day cycle and CD26 is also CD1 and I count the day twice or a 25 day cycle and each day is only counted once?

Just asking again beacause I know its Sunday

25 day cycle, and day 26 doesn't exist, it is day 1. HTH!!!

Twiglett · 20/01/2008 14:56

no CD1 is always the day your period starts (with red blood)

so you stop counting your cycle the day before

so you had CD1 to CD25 - 25 day cycle
then new cycle started 2nd Jan CD1

may I ask why you want to know (and if you say you want to count backwards 14 days to find ovulation I will most probably scream in anguish)

missnevermind · 20/01/2008 16:16

I might make you scream

I was just trying to find the length of my cycle. I average a 25 day cycle (24-26)then not a 26 day one.

Twiglett · 20/01/2008 16:19

oh god tell me you're joking .. tell me you know that the 14 days is a statistical average and that any woman can ovulate at any point during their cycle and the only way to tell is to chart or use OPKs

please tell me you know this

you know that you could be ovulating any time .. say from day 6 to day 20 etc etc etc

cluckyagain · 20/01/2008 17:54

I didn;t know that!!!! That would explain pg's a weird and wonderful times during the month - I seriously didn;t know that and I have 3 LOs!

missnevermind · 20/01/2008 18:12

OK I heard you scream.
It just leads into my next question really.
About EWM and what it means - I know what it is and looks like, but what does it mean my body is doing?

OP posts:
lulumama · 20/01/2008 18:15

EWM usually means ovulation, clear, stretchy mucus and lots of it !...

i am the only woman i know who has a bang on 28 day cycle and has conceived around day 13- 14 both times

i am that mythical woman !!!

Twiglett · 20/01/2008 18:16

strongly recommend you read Toni Weschler "Take charge of your fertility"

Carpetbeetle · 20/01/2008 18:52

I had ewcm around day 10 or 11 most cycles...period on day 24 or 25. Conceived day 11 both times I think!

arrrggghhhhh nooo

the so-called 'ovulation caculator' on ivillage does it based on "Fertilisation usually takes place 14 days before your next period" ... It's WRONG, BOLLOCKS, STATISTICAL AVERAGE CRAP

I used to ovulate on day 23 of a 30 - 35 day cycle .. for a start .. so I would never conceive on that .. because I'm an individual

THIS is why I get cross .. this and hearing it from GPs

such unadulterated crap!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 20/01/2008 21:40

I would agree with Twiglett here.

I would also add that ovulation is not an exact science and a woman can ovulate earlier, later or not at all in ANY given cycle. It is therefore quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

Temp charting is also problematic as you can have a temp spike in the second half of your cycle when an egg has actually not been shed. Charting in itself is therefore not infallible particularly if the menstrual cycle is irregular.

Ok - sorry to bump these threads but I am obsessiong a bit here. I have a 24 day cycle. I am on day 7 and still have my period. Is it possible then that I could stop menstruating tomorrow and ovulate as early as the day after?

newmumofone · 02/03/2008 14:19

Possible to ovulate right after your period, but very very unlikely. Another way to tell when you're ovulating is to check the opening to your cervix. When you ovulate the cervix gets nice and soft and the tiny opening widens, just a bit. This is so the sperm can get up, up and away! The egg white-like mucus is a big give away too. Sorry to sound scank, but if it'll stretch between your fingers like egg white then it's baby making day. xx

beaniesteve · 02/03/2008 14:38

OK - I am not sure I would even know if I was feeling my cervix or not. How do I know I am touching it? Sorry - a bit embarrassing but I haven't really poked about up there that much...

Also - when I had a smear a few years back (I have had another since) I had to go back to get it redone and was told that the reason was because I have a small Cervix. Would this present any problems for conception do you think?

newmumofone · 02/03/2008 19:18

The cervix is the smooth cushiony bit right at the top. Prod gently with your finger and you'll find that there's a slight dip in the middle with a little hole. The hole's only about 2mm wide, but you'll find it pretty easily. It dilates and contracts through your cycle. Don't worry about the size - it won't affect your chances of conception. Women who've had a natural birth often have a slightly slit shaped hole as this is also the way out for your baby. Think how amazing the female body is to expand and contract to this degree! We are amazing!
