long cycles... is this a problem? (life after Lap &Dye)

After a lap and dye: hysteroscopy, laproscopy and ovarian diathermy in October I have had two very long cycles (37 days and 40 days). I had heard that very long cycles could be problematic for conception. Any advice or thoughts? I had a mmc in Oct 06 and then diagnosed with PCOS and put on clomid. When that didn't work I had the surgery which found no problems other than minor PCOS. I'm worried that my long cycles are potentially problematic.

I've had this surgery (ovarian diathermy) for my case of PCOS. Problem is PCOS can recur.

Was wondering why they seemingly did all these procedures first then give you clomid, usually its the other way around. You've also had an awful lot of surgery to date - the lap and the ovarian diathermy are not dissimilar procedures under GA so was wondering why they chose to do both operations rather than just the diathermy solely.

Long cycles are certainly problematic when it comes to conceiving. You have a PCOS diagnosis as well (its not a case of actually whether the PCOS is minor or not).

How is your PCOS being managed currently, are you still under the care of a gynae?. You ought to be seen regularly by the subfertility unit.

Verity's website www.verity-pcos.org.uk may be helpful to you as well.

HTH, any other questions just ask.

Hi Atilla, we've been in touch before! Sorry, I must have confused things... I had a mmc at 13 weeks. After 5 months of no period they put me on clomid when I was diagnosed with PCO. Although that did make me ovulate, I did not get pregnant. So I had the lap and dye etc. Every investigation has suggested only very mild PCO (not necessarily the syndrome. I only had the surgery at the end of OCtober, so not sure if it is just taking awhile for me settle into a routine cycle. I'm not being managed- I was told to see how it goes for 6 months and then go to the fertility clinic after that. I am going to make an appointment with my GP, though...

Think you ought to be managed more closely by the fertility clinic now rather than being just left and potentially ending up seeing them six months later.

What surgery did they do last October?. If a lap operation was performed rather than ovarian diathermy the ovaries may not have been operated on at all. Even if its not the full blown syndrome (and there is a very fine line between the two) polycystic ovaries can themselves be problematic when it comes to ttc.

Would certainly make an appointment with your GP to see what he thinks.

Keep us posted, wishing you the best of luck!.

Thanks, Attila. I had the whole shebang in October- hysteroscopy, laproscopy and ovarian diathermy. I am definitely going to go and see my GP just to make sure I'm doing all I can. It's all such a stressful business and I just hoped to get into a regular sort of pattern and try to put my mind to other things!
