Question about ovulation

Hello ladies, I was wondering if you could help....I understand that some cycles are anovulatory; when this happens, does the period resulting from such a cycle appear to be the same as a period resulting from an ovulatory cycle? Thanks for any insight!

Yes, I think it is the same.

How are you to know then without using Ov sticks all month?

Take your temperature.

Hi Kudu,

I had an anovulatory cycle just before this one, and I got my period around the same time as I normally get it, but it came on without the usual cramping or sore boobs and then I spotted for a few more days than normal.

Some women's anov bleeds are much lighter than usual.

I'd had a progesterone test (day 21) done that cycle and it showed that I hadn't ovulated. I was also charting temperatures (as suggested by Slinkie) and there was no shift into my post-ov range of temps.

OPKs didn't work for me as I would get an LH surge and then not hatch an egg. Very confusing when you're expecting AF two weeks but keep getting BFNs. Taking my temps was the only way I could see if I'd ovulated that cycle.

fruitloop the only other signs are:

Checking your CM, it should get more abundant and watery and then become EWCM. This is when you are most fertile. Once you have ovulated the EWCM dries up pretty quickly, pretty much that day or the next day.

If you don't get EWCM, drink lots of water/grapefruit juice. Should increase it.

During my anov cycles I would get patches of EWCM throughout, it never dried up properly - this was my body trying to ovulate again and again until eventually it gave up and thought 'sod it' lets start over.

The second sign is checking your cervical position. During AF it will be low and open, after AF it closes. During your fertile period it will be soft, high and open. Sometimes it will be so high you won't be able to reach it. The day after ov it will be closed and hard, it will then start to move lower until AF arrives when it opens again.

You should check it the same time everyday as it moves throughout the day depending on how full your bladder and bowels are. It also takes a couple of cycles to get to familiarise yourself with it and to be able to tell when it's hard and soft etc.

Every woman has their own unique symptoms for ov and post-ov. I used to get really sore nips but the rest of the boob would be fine. Then after ov I'd feel my uterine lining start to build up and be really womb-aware. You could try keeping a diary and then looking over the different symptoms you get each month.
