As per subject line states, they prescribed me clomid but Im not having periods and I don't know which days to even take clomid anyway since they gave different instructions

Well here I am again seeking advice from a forum because I feel the NHS are failing to care for me properly.
If you don't want an update or my story please go ahead and just answer my subject questions.

Im 36 ttc since.. what feels like forever, since our early 20s. Finally got a diagnosis at 33 of pcos after years of struggling. I've never been pregnant before. Been on metformin for few months but hasn't helped regulate cycles.
After 3 years I finally got my referral from gp to gynae, I've been going back and forth now for months. First appointment they told me go get these blood tests done on your period. I waited 3 months for my period to come (I have pcos and only have 1 or 2 periods a year)

On my second appointment I saw a different doctor who told me ,come back again in 2 weeks I can't find your results also we should do a smear, he said you'll get a letter ... 5 weeks later and no letter I rang them for an appointment and they refused to give me one citing they are fully booked until August and they can only book 6 weeks on the system yet are somehow still booked out for months? Dosent even make sense. I rang again a few days later and luckily got a cancellation that was 2 months ago, almost 3 now. Went to that appointment , different doctor again and she was giving out to me that I don't need to waste her time coming to gynae to get a smear to go to gp. I firmly told her I'm not here for a smear ,I'm here to get my bloody blood test results that I've been waiting on for past almost 2 months since I was told they can't do anything without these results. At this appointment she said the head gynae reviewed blood test and I'm not ovulating and left a note to prescribe me clomid for 6 months. My progesterone is also extremely low she said. To be honest the appointment was rushed and a nurse kept coming into the office asking this doctor to see another patient. Left and came back again, I found this very distracted and then the appointment was rushed as they only give you 15mins for existing patients.
Now .. here's my problem
They know I don't have regular periods so how the hell can I take clomid ? If I'm to wait for a natural period It could be another 6 months , 1 year or more. Im turning 37. This process is causing anxiety so bad that I can't even sleep at night. I'm constantly stressed because I'm aware of my age is now making my chances of becoming a mother more challenging and it seems no one ever wants to take this serious. Ive always been irregular and my periods stopped when I was 32 , I went one year without a period and gp did blood tests and scan ect then reffered me at that point.
It was another 6 months before I had a period , so it was 1 and a half years of no period which I felt the gp shouldn't have left me so long Without a period as I'm aware that can have implications like increased risk of cancer. This year so far I've had 2 periods.
How the f do I take clomid when I don't have periods ? Since its supposed to be taken on a period . And that's another thing, she told me start on day 1 for 5 days , yet the instruction leaflet they sent in post says different, it says start day 3 for 5 days ? I'm confused, I don't know anything about this medication or how to take it .
Don't even get me started on trying to collect the prescription. It took 18 days to collect it because they lost it , then didn't send the second one either . What a hassle.
Anyway.. today I rang gynae referral line to try book an appointment, I explained to them they gave me a medication I can't take since I don't have cycles and also different instructions and I need to go sort this out... they said we can't give you an appointment as you have to be invited back . Seriously? Surely that's a complete lack of care. They told me I have to go back to my gp to get referral back to them now. Rang surgery today and they didn't answer, rang again and it was engaged, rang again and they hung up the phone on me ! Rang again and now they are saying gp isn't taking any appointments only call backs by phone so I have to wait 3 weeks now to speak to gp to see what the gp says.
I've been crying all morning.
My partner said we'll make a private appointment if necessary, which I may have no choice but its also unfair that we have to pay £200 for an appointment for gynaes lack of care. They've sent me away with a medication to take on my period knowing I don't have periods often.

Do any of you ladies have any advice or have you been in a similar situation with taking clomid with no period?
Is it something the gp can help me with , is there any medication to bring on a bleed, or can't it be used with clomid ?
Or will she just refer me back to gynae ?
Any advice is appreciated

Hi MK

I am so sorry you are having such a rough time of it. I am very new into this fertility journey and have a hycosy booked for this Friday and hoping they can then provide me with clomid.

I also have PCOS and they are planning on giving me provera to induce my period to then take clomid - potentially this is what you may need?

I would "try" and get hold of your dr - it may be something they can prescribe? rather than having to get another gynae appointment.

Sending love of love x

You will need to go back to your doctor and ask them for medication to induce your bleed. Or wait unfortunately! Are you being monitored on clomid?

Sunnyshoeshine · 25/07/2022 19:10

You should have been given provera (which is horrible so prepare yourself), but that induces a bleed around 10days later, and then you start your clomid during your period (i took letrozole on days 2-7 but clomid might be different). Metformin can take up to 6months to start working so if you've only just started taking it then thats why it might not be working yet.

In any case, gynae are not the right people to see about PCOS and GPs are generally crap. At your age (i was 35 when i had DD) i would be pushing straight for referral to Endocrinology / Assisted Conception Unit (if you are in London, i had excellent care at Guys & St Thomas'). They should be monitoring you with internal scans as clomid / letrozole can cause OHSS and i used to get a detailed print out of instructions for what to take when. Took 3 cycles when i conceived DD.

Good luck - its a tricky road but finding the right consultant will help loads.

Thanks for the replies girls.
I've made a note to ask for provera /Norethisterone to induce a bleed.
I've been told when i do start clomid that I'm to book in for a scan to monitor if I'm responding.
I've been on metformin now since the start of March. I had hope it might regulate as i had one period 30 days afterwards and again 3 weeks later which is most unusual for me. Sadly it never kept up and I haven't had another cycle since end April
