Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)

Hi,
I was referred to a gynaecologist last week by my GP. She has requested a hysterosalpingogram (HSG).

Does anyone know the current waiting time for an HSG referral? How did you find the examination?

Thank you.

Hello,

I had a HSG 3 weeks ago. I was offered it within 2 months of being referred for it.

I didn’t find it particularly painful. I always find speculums really uncomfortable and that was the worst part for me! It was over very quickly, but I went faint afterwards because I think I worked myself up for it. My doctor prescribed a string dose of antibiotics to take afterwards and they made me feel quite nauseous.

I had mine at 9.30am and then spent the rest of the day relaxing at home and felt normal by the next morning. I did have to wear a sanitary towel, as the dye stuff leaks out afterwards.

I also liked that the Dr told my then and there what my results were.

I hope this helps!

Hi, i just had my HSG done yesterday. Want to know something about what my report said. It said bilateral patent tubes with normal spill which is a good thing, but it also said signs of hydrosalpinx seen which actually means a blockage. Now I'm confused, whether tubes are open or blocked. I have an appointment with my obgyn next week but I'm so worried and confused :/ #hsg

If you've already been referred to gynae and gynae is requesting it then it likely won't take long as your already under care.
I had mine done the following month after gynae arranged it

@FZI if they are patent it means they are opened and your tubes aren't blocked.
It may have been partially blocked that stopped the dye for a few seconds but then continued to go through them. They wouldn't say open if they are not. The dye can clear minor blockages as it flushes them out which is why pregnancy after it is common . This was certainly the case for me. I was told my left fallopian was swollen with fluid ( they were going to remove it) but my dye test was normal. My fertility clinic was happy with the results and I no longer need the laparoscopy . I actually got pregnant the month after it but lost it.
So dont worry yourself. It could just be the dye flushed your tubes

Thanks for such a detailed reply. So sorry to hear about your loss. I have had a pregnancy loss before and i cannot imagine how emotionally painful it is. Wishing you all the best in future!!
