Just that!

And if you did get pregnant did you do anything differently (not looking for IVF stories) ...or did you just relax! ( which is what I think I need to do!! 😄)

I'm taking Blackmores pre conceive vitamins which seem to have a good dose of folic vit d and vit b12

I exercise - running after a 3 year old!!!
Eat well
Never smoked and don't really drink

Why not? If you're still ovulating and having regular cycles?!

Riverlee · 12/07/2022 07:54

Yes, you can get pregnant at 43, although statistically it’s also harder.

Icecreamandapplepie · 12/07/2022 07:54

It is statistically alot harder but does happen!
Good sign if you conceived 3 years earlier...

My sister was born when my mum, was 45

Greenygreen · 12/07/2022 19:47

I am hoping so! I’m also 43, with a 3 year old (conceived naturally after 4 cycles) and after lots of back and forth, want to try for #2. We’ve only just come to this conclusion but think we may need to give ourselves an end date to ttc.
just starting taking all the right supplements, about to cut alcohol and do a med diet! Hoping they will all help. Think we will give ourselves 9 months and if nothing happens, we’ll just let it be and enjoy our wonderful DD x

BigSandyBalls2015 · 12/07/2022 19:48

Unlikely but certainly possible.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 12/07/2022 19:52

Possible for some women, but less likely than when younger. The health risks to baby are higher than when younger.

i fell pregnant rapidly at age 42. Not surprised as somehow I sensed my body was epically fertile! And also I promised myself to give it 6 months then give up (I was pregnant within 3 months), and if it wasn’t meant to be I’d have been okay with that.

i was healthy - swimming and walking - and eating a good diet (absolutely no alcohol, taking prenatal vitamins, only one cup of coffee a day, minimal processed crap) however I was a little bit overweight (controlling my pregnancy weight gain handled that problem).

My DH was taking vitamins too.

I think genes and luck play a big part.

Had a baby at 43.
Pre natal vits.
high dose folic acid
iron supplements every other day.
Cut out alcohol
cut out caffeine
increased water intake
healthy eating to loose weight.
Loosely tracked my period just so I knew when it was due.

Thats it.
Didn’t have much hope tbh.

Yes, my sister in law had her DS at 44. Hard work (she'd had her first in her early 30's) but no complications at all. He's 23 now!

Cliffordthebigreddog · 12/07/2022 20:29

I became pregnant with my youngest daughter at age 43 with no difficulty at all and without particularly trying. We just thought if it happens it happens and had unprotected sex for around 3/4 months before I fell pregnant. I already had 3 other children though and never had any problems conceiving. I drink occasionally but I’ve never smoked, I eat fairly healthily and exercise 2/3 times a week. I’m 47 now. Good luck!

Alfiesbow · 12/07/2022 21:12

Yes definitely! I wasn’t far off my 44th birthday when I conceived after a few years of trying. The only thing that we did differently was to relax (cliche though it is)! I was taking folic acid, have never smoked and only drank alcohol occasionally.

Previously we were pretty much on a timetable when trying to conceive, but after 3 years of trying and with no joy, we just decided to go with the flow with the view that if it happened great, but we weren’t expecting anything.

And then I got pregnant. Pregnancy was fine- I was put under the care of a consultant due to my age, but she discharged me after only one appointment because she was happy that I didn’t need any additional care. My weight was in the healthy range and I had no health issues and she deemed me at a lower risk than someone younger with health issues.

Baby was completely healthy and that’s continued into childhood.

So, yes it may be more difficult to get pregnant at 43, but definitely possible.

Good luck!

winterfox78 · 14/07/2022 12:12

Thanks @Alfiesbow that gives me hope!

Yes. I did it at 44+5, with one tube and half an ovary.

We weren't trying, it came as something of a shock. I wasn't doing/eating anything special.

SuperCamp · 14/07/2022 12:26

I did, first month of trying. Healthy, problem free pregnancy.

It’s very much about the individual.

But it really isn’t that rare. Cherie Blair and Jo Brand are amongst those who had babies at 46, for example. Lots of MNers have had babies in their 40s.

But obviously it can’t be taken for granted.

winterfox78 · 16/07/2022 13:58

@SuperCamp @MintJulia thank you for your replies.
It has given me hope!
Agreed it is somewhat down to the individual.
I don't know if already have had a baby at 40, she's now nearly 4, increase my chances at all? Who knows...
Anyway AF has arrived ...so onwards now!!
My cycles are regular still 25 days...

I had a ds at 43. 2. Ttc when dc was 1 and sadly mc several times. I gave up.
Ask your GP for bloods done to check your fertility. Didn't think they would do any testing at my age but they did no problem..
