Doctors don't seem to know luteal phase can vary?

My LP has always been around 10 days, going by OPK and some obvious symptoms. First time around TTC I mentioned that to my GP and she dismissed it like she'd never heard of that. When I got pregnant I went in for my due date and she asked me my cycle length, I said well 24 days but I know I ovulate on day 14 so you should just put 28. She looked at me like I had two heads and put 24. This time round TTC I mentioned it to my friend who is a gynecologist (on a maternity ward, not working in fertility) and she said that's not possible, luteal phase is always 14 days. She said my OPKs might be inaccurate. Most official sources on the menstrual cycle say this too, in fact the only time I see varying LP length mentioned is on TTC forums.
Had anyone else had experiences like this? I don't know whether I'm just completely wrong about my own body, or else doctors are not taught about this even at a high level unless maybe they work in fertility.

No but mines longer i deffo dont ovulate till day 19! So only gives me 9 days before period is due. Both times preg both times really light tests which get stronger.
GP dismissed first baby preg test as a false post cos it was light but i knew i was only 11dpo... again he sed it was too late post period 2 days late and prob just end in chemical preg!! It didnt and hes now 7!

dislike gp for ttc advice dont seem to know enough!

I work in fertility and as far as I was aware although a 14 day Luteal phase is the norm, it can definitely be 10 days too, especially for breastfeeding women

My GP also dismissed my concerns about a short LP. Like your gynaecologist friend she told me that the LP is always 14 days, so if you have a short cycle, it just means you ovulate earlier. It was so frustrating as I knew (based on CM, ovulation pain and OPKs) this wasn’t the case for me. I have since started fertility treatment and luckily my consultant (who is also a gynaecologist, but specialises in reproductive medicine) has not been dismissive of a short LP. In fact, I have been having treatment to regulate my cycle and lengthen my LP!
Like @OrlaOrka said, a 14-day LP is the average, but it can definitely vary.

Yea I always thought it was 14 days according to literature, however I mostly ovulate on cd19/20 and I usually get AF on cd 29/30 making it 10 day LT phase.

It’s scary how clueless they are.

"Normal probability plots were used to assess the homogeneity of a population of 327 luteal phases from apparently ovulatory menstrual cycles. The length of the luteal phase was defined as the interval (in days) following but not including, the luteinizing hormone peak, up to and including the day before onset of menstruation. A small sub-set of the population consisted of cycles with abnormally short luteal phases but the majority of the data followed a normal frequency distribution which gave a mean (± SD) for normal luteal phase length of 14.13 (± 1.41) days. It was estimated that all cycles with a luteal phase 9 days were abnormal, and that 74%, 22% and 2% respectively of cycles with luteal phases of 10, 11 and 12 days were also abnormal. The total incidence of short luteal phases defined as above was 5.2%."

So 1 in 20 women have a 'short luteal phase' so not exactly uncommon.

I always thought your lp is the same each month for you, not every woman's phase is the same, so I think mine is around 14 days but yours could be 10 but each month it would be the same for each of us x
