Chemical pregnancy but line getting stronger

Hi ladies,

just wondering if it’s the norm or even just possible that a line on a pregnancy test can get stronger after a chemical?

I tested around the day my period was due (not sure exactly if I was late at that point) and got a super faint line so just assumed I had tested early, it was almost hard to see and didn’t even show up on a photo. then the very next day I bled and it became quite heavy like a clotty period. Put it this way, I was certain nothing could have clung on in there and I bled for about 4 days. I didn’t really get any cramping though, just more of a pressure feeling down there.
anyway, now I’m one week and one day on from the start of the bleeding and I took a pregnancy test once or twice over the last week (just to make sure I hadn’t imagined the first one) and they were clearly positive , much clearer than the initial but Still super faint so I just put it down to the HCG still hanging about as I was still bleeding. Worth noting that unlike my initial faint test, these were just the cheap boots strips so I also thought it wasn’t a good comparison.
Anyway I did another today and I did the exact brand and type as the very first one I got the day before I bled (clear blue 1 rapid detection) and it’s now very strong and as clear as the control line.
im not suggesting I could still be pregnant because I just can’t see how but I’m now wondering if this is normal for some people or if this is a sign of something wrong? Does the hcg continue to build while bleeding and a week after? Is it worthy of phoning the doctor or should I just wait a bit longer and test again in a few days? I know I shouldn’t need to ask here about whether to phone the doc or not , but let’s just say my doc is not particularly warm or approachable and I’m just wanting to make sure I can advocate for myself if I need to.

thanks so much for reading!

Some people do still bleed while pregnant. Can you call the EPU rather than your doctor? They may say wait a week then do a test but if you call them now at least you are on their radar rather than waiting a week only to be told to wait a week if that makes sense.

Do you have any pics of the tests?

As the other person said, I think you need to get a docs appointment.
It's not unheard of to bleed in pregnancy, so don't rule it out just yet - although like you said could be lingering hormones.
Blood tests will be able to clarify

Yeah I’ve got pics of the tests. I can’t seem to find the number for EPU but I’m going to ask about. I’ve been digging deep online and found some other women who continued to get darker lines for a while before a negative even after the chemical. So I think that’s me. The amount of blood and clots just make me think there’s no hope.

My lines got lighter before I started bleeding with my CPs. I've not heard of them getting darker after bleeding.

I bled for two days with my successful pregnancy.

I had a full five day period recently, got a 3+ on Clear Blue Weeks indicator 14 days after it started, and that pregnancy turned out to be ectopic.

I’d get checked out, as while it could just be one of those things in a healthy pregnancy, for me it was a sign something wasn’t right.

StellaMoon · 30/06/2022 17:09

@LividLaVidaLoca sorry to read about your experience. ectopic is what I’ve been wondering about but I have no symptoms right now , I’m not bleeding anymore and no pain. Does that mean I can wait to speak to a doc? Or should I be phoning 111? I really don’t think there could be a viable pregnancy continuing after the amount of blood and clots that I’ve lost. X

I had no bleeding, though I did have a back ache for 24 hours.

I only insisted on a scan because I’d had a previous ruptured ectopic - otherwise I’d have had no idea.

You can go to your local EPU or get a private placement scan. The “period” counts as bleeding.

I don’t mean to scare you but I do think it’s worth finding out what’s going on.

I've not got any knowledge on potential ectopic pregnancies. Is there any information on the nhs website to see if they recommend ringing 111 or ok to wait and scheduling a normal docs appointment?
Sorry to hear you going through this.. ttc can be such a nightmare.
