HELP!!! Has anyone travelled abroad for fertility treatment???

Because I can't find travel insurance to cover me. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?
I organised everything myself, so not part of a package, and I'm travelling soon, so I really really need to get this organised.

Are you travelling within Europe - wouldn't your E111 cover you for emergency treatment (I'm assuming the main risks are around hyperstimulation).

To clarify - I'm not having IVF, it's IUI, so the risks of the treatment are very very low. But I'll need regular travel insurance too, especially as I'm going to the USA, and "normal" travel insurance won't cover people who are going abroad for any kind of medical treatment. I've googled until my eyes cross, but I just can't find out who people go to for cover.

Has no-one else done this? Are there any infertility support boards on other sites that might help?

Oh bloody hell. I've spent all day phoning and phoning. I'm waiting for someone to phone back. He told me that it would take "5 minutes" and that was half an hour ago, which I know is a bad sign. I've given up on having the treatment covered, all I want is regular travel insurance now (and I said that I would say no cover for treatment or resulting from treatment), but no-one will cover me because I'm going abroad for "medical" treatment.
All the numbers that I'm trying have been specifically recommmended as specialist insurance people by the national association. Getting really wound up now that I won't get anything and I'll be neurotic for the whole trip thinking that I'll be involved in an accident and bankrupt us.

They really are daft aren't they? It doesn't make sense that they wouldn't cover you for an accident, for example. It's not the medical treatment that is, say, going to result in you getting run over. It's like the insurance policies that have a clause about alcohol consumption. Just because you've had a drink and may be slightly tipsy does not mean it is your fault your hotel balcony was unsafe and collapse underneath you! The insurance company should pay out! Grrrrs

May I highly recommend Equity insurance for all your travel needs?

OK, scrap my last email. It turns out that when they sent me the details, there was no mention that I'd told them about the treatment. I was concerned about it, and wanted a written record that they knew. So I phoned them and spoke to someone who told me not to panic and that she'd sort it out and phone back. No phone call came, so I phoned. She had gone onto her lunchbreak so a collegue got hold of the details - they would not cover me for anything the insurance was completely invalid!!!!
So they had completely landed me in it! Luckily, I have managed to sort it out, but imagine if I hadn't been careful enough to check. I wouldn't have been covered for anything.
So I would recommend that any MNers never use Equity or insure because they are complete bastards who not only screwed up but then didn't have the guts to phone me and tell me, so that I was left scrambling around for someone to insure me. I would recommend Planet Earth, who have lovely consiencious telephone operators and GO who eventually insured me.

Have a look on the website Fertility Friends - there are plenty of people who have done so on there.

Can I bump this? We are considering IVF in Europe (for financial reasons) and I would love to hear from others who are either considering this option, or have direct experience.
We have been in touch with a clinic in Poland, one in Hungary and one in Slovakia.

I am on a couple of other forums, but I am struggling to get information about one of the clinics and I was hoping someone on MN might have heard of it. I Have read quite a bit about scan health and they do look good.
I have had a good response from Poland as well, the prices seem very reasonable.
Must pop over to the other thread and check it out.
