I've recently been tested by the doctors and I've been told I have low progesterone & I'm not ovulating! What does this mean :'(

It means you're not releasing eggs 😕which obviously has to happen for you to become pregnant.

What are your next steps with the doctors?

@Flederjo as well as I won't be able to carry a pregnancy to term will I? I am so heart broken 😭

I have an ultra sound on the 11th x

It's not about carrying a pregnancy to term, it's that if there is no egg released then you cannot become pregnant in the first place.

However, they only tested your progesterone during one cycle, correct? So maybe only that cycle was anovulatory? Impossible to say.

I know you've posted a lot here about OPKs and DPO etc, but have you also been temping? An increase in BBT usually confirms ovulation. OPKs just detect the hormone LH that peaks before ovulation, but it doesn't necessarily mean that an egg will be released.

I think the ultrasound will give you more info - I'm assuming they will look in detail at your ovaries and follicles etc?

It doesn't affect your ability to carry a pregnancy to term. The low progesterone at the moment is CAUSED BY not ovulating. They'll plan to use medication to make you ovulate. For most people, progesterone will then be fine

Exactly. They might also give you progesterone pessaries to ensure that the levels are optimal after the "forced" ovulation.

@Flederjo thank you, it's just not news I was expecting so I'm probably being slightly irrational and very emotional about it

Yeah use OPK's but never BBT I don't really understand how it works but I will have a look at this.

Thank you x

@TheDaydreamBelievers thank you that was really helpful, I just started looking on the internet and it made things worse, read that progesterone is needed to carry to term so then of course started to panic x

My doctors got my results the wrong way round ...

CD 22 - progesterone was 46
CD 3 - progesterone was 1

TabbyKat87 · 13/06/2022 15:14

So you have ovulated then?

itsnearlymytime · 13/06/2022 15:19

@TabbyKat87 yeah I have ovulated, they said it was their error and they apologised for it, they said they got confused and gave me incorrect info

OP posts:
itsnearlymytime · 13/06/2022 15:20

Originally they told me my CD 22 level was 1 so I wasn't ovulating

Flederjo · 13/06/2022 15:54

Well then nowt to worry about! 😃

TabbyKat87 · 13/06/2022 15:56

Oh wow, what a mistake to make! Glad they rectified it. Sounds all good

itsnearlymytime · 13/06/2022 16:05

@Flederjo incredibly relieved!

@TabbyKat87 I know!! Crazy, right? They did really apologise to be fair x
