TTC... I feel clueless!

Hi all,

I am 27 and DH is also 27. We got married last August and decided to come off contraception straight away. So this is month 9 of us TTC.

It sounds STUPID but I have quite a few sisters and they all came off contraception and fell pregnant within 1-2 months. I think I always thought I'd be the same as they constantly joked about how fertile we are. It's been 9 months and nothing.

DH and I are having sex 3-4 times a week and I use the Flo app to help track so when I'm ovulating we try to aim for every day. Is there anything else you suggest? Other than having regular sex and being on no contraception I don't know what else we can do?

At first I didn't mind we hadn't conceived yet but the last couple of cycles it's really getting me down. Is there something wrong? At what point do you seek medical advice?

Just looking to offload my feeling!

TIA

I’m sorry it must be Worthing if it’s taking longer than you expected: I would personally go to the dr after trying for a year

It might be him that's the problem, not you. After you've been trying for a year the go should be able to refer you for investigations, that usually start with sperm analysis as it's the easiest test to do.

GP sorry

*worrying!

At your ages, it would be a year of trying- but you might be waved off a bit by your GP due to your youth.

something I would try next cycle is a ferti-lily or a ‘fertility cup’ (a non brand name you can search cheaply on Amazon or eBay). The ferti-lily is about 30 quid from boots. It’s a soft mooncup you put up yourself after sex to deliver more sperm to your womb and Fallopian tubes. I have got pregnant both months I used this (the first a miscarriage, the next my current 33 week pregnancy).

I would also make sure that you are actually having sex 4 times a week. Then there will be sperm waiting. Your Flo app will not be accurate without temperature tracking and monitoring cervical mucus, so if you have a quiet week (1-2 times) in the ovulation period you may end up missing the boat. Even if you have sex right in your ovulation window- your chances of pregnancy are only up to 30%.

if you have the funds- I would recommend seeing a doctor together for a fertility MOT. For a check for you and sperm analysis- it should be about 500-750. There may be a problem that you might want to find out sooner rather than later, or you might feel better knowing there is nothing wrong.

Thank you! This is really helpful and given me some food for thought.

I use the clear blue digital ovulation sticks. They have worked for me and can help pin point ovulation, even better if you measure your temp but I found that got too obsessive for me. I’m currently on day 2 of a flashing smiley face so hope to get my static smiley and ovulation in the next couple of days

Moancup · 12/05/2022 07:23

You say you’re using an app. How tuned in are you to your cervical mucus? I think better to focus on actual bodily signs and not how an algorithm is interpreting them.

I’d also try ovulation sticks for a couple of months to double check when you ovulate.

You can buy over the counter sperm tests for about £30. They’re nowhere near as good as a proper lab check but it’s a cheap first step for your DP.
