PCOS and ovulation

Hi all,
I’ve got PCOS and had a scan today where they told me my ovaries were enlarged however they could see any cysts.

On Wednesday last week I got a positive OPK AND all other symptoms of ovulation such as EWCM etc.

My cycles are super long, sometimes 70+ days but I did get pregnant in December (sadly ended in a chemical)

I’m taking inositol, pre-conception vitamins and fish oil with omega 3.

I suppose my question is, could I still be ovulating? And could my ovaries be enlarged as I HAVE just ovulated? Looking online it seems that’s common.

I just feel so all over the place!

Hi OP. I have no advice but I didn’t want to read and run. I have PCOS as well and completely absent periods for months at a time or never ending heavy periods. I bit the bullet and seen a private Gynae who was able to stop my bleeding and kind of ‘reset’ my period. Also, just to give you a bit of hope, I fell pregnant in 2019 after only one period that year, obviously without a cycle we couldn’t track ovulation or plan DTD but we were very lucky and fell pregnant and now have a very cheeky almost 2 year old. Good luck ☺️

Thank you so much @TTCX So happy it worked out well for you! Did you fall pregnant around that period or during a spell of none?

Can I ask what you were prescribed please, if you don’t mind sharing! Xxx

So I had a period in the January or February of 2019 and then some spotting in September and fell pregnant in the October! I was given Prevera as I had been bleeding for weeks, it stopped my bleeding instantly, also think it can ‘jump start’ a period when you stop taking it as well, almost like a withdrawal bleed when you’re on the pill.

I still ovulate with PCOS and long cycles. It’s a recent thing since taking inositol but twice now I Have had a positive (as much as 2+ t/c) OPK, some EWCM and a confirmed temperature rise for two weeks before my period. You absolutely can ovulate with PCOS! Some people get pregnant with no problems with PCOS so they must fairly ovulate fairly regularly / got lucky timing wise I suppose.

I might have misunderstood what you’re saying but if you don’t have cysts in your ovaries (they call it a string of Pearl appearance sometimes) what conditions did they diagnose you on? You obviously have periods? Although I think long cycles count as a criteria and then hormones or acne or something?

good luck!

Thanks so much @TTCX thats so great to hear, bodies really are mysterious things!

@CRbear thanks so much for sharing, are you currently TTC? I had my bloods done and I have high androgens and that teamed with the long cycles seems to be enough to diagnose, I have seen elsewhere that the enlarged ovaries is also a symptom caused by the androgens but it’s such a minefield out there! Xx

So sorry to hijack this thread but really interested to know more @TTCX on your visit with a private gynae.
I have PCOS and I've bled twice in the last month, like a proper period, and I am at my wit's end. My GP won't see me for a month at the earliest or refer to me to gynae so debating private but it's £180 just for the consultation, did you do anymore than that eg. Ultrasound etc?

@JaneGnR88 I conceived with PCOS, sadly k had a miscarriage but that was most likely due to thryoid issue not PCOS - it can be done!

Hi @MO22, happy to answer any questions you have! So I’ve had a back and forth relationship with my GP for ages and initially was referred to the fertility clinic in 2019 but fell pregnant as above so thankfully didn’t need it. Since having my daughter once I finished breastfeeding last year I had a few regular periods then they stopped for months and then returned with a vengeance and I bled for weeks and weeks, I had a scan arranged with my GP due to the heavy bleeding and everything was normal (have a thicker uttering lining because I don’t ovulate regularly). My husband and I wanted to try for number 2, so I knew I would likely need some input, I was put on the waiting list again for fertility support with the NHS but knowing it would take a while I just hit the bullet. My consultation was £200, and I paid for blood tests + medication to stop my heaving bleeding and an internal exam. Whilst expensive, it didn’t come to quite as much as I’d expected and honestly it was worth it just to stop the heavy bleeding I was experiencing and the experience and advice of the Gynae. Thankfully I didn’t have to pay for a scan on top as the GP transferred the notes of all their own investigations.

so sorry for the essay! But if you do find that you are in a position to go private and the GP isn’t supporting you, I’d absolutely recommend!

That’s meant to say uterine lining 🤦🏻‍♀️
