Advice - when to start IVF?

I'm 37.5. Been trying to conceive for just over two years.

First 15 cycles, nothing. Then I had a hycosy scan and got pregnant the first cycle after - I assumed that the hycosy had unblocked something as that seems fairly common. Unfortunately I miscarried after 7 weeks.

Got pregnant again four cycles later - unfortunately that was a chemical pregnancy.

Went to see a miscarriage specialist, found out I have Factor V Leiden and for the next pregnancy will need blood thinning injections. Me and DH have had lots of other fertility tests and they have all come back normal. I have good AMH too.

The miscarriage specialist was very optimistic and said it was likely I would fall again naturally within a couple of months and with the blood thinning treatment would be less likely to miscarry again. She said not to bother with IVF and to keep trying naturally as I know I can get pregnant and had got pregnant twice in five cycles.

But since then I have had 8 negative cycles. I am 38 next birthday and feel like I am running out of time. Everyone I know around me is getting pregnant. Everyone I know who has had a miscarriage seems to get pregnant again the next month. In total we have had 28 cycles and two pregnancies. At what point should I move to IVF? We have the money to go private.

Will just add a couple of other things - this is my first post on MN after lurking and reading posts for a long time!

I am finding the whole infertility / miscarriage situation really tough mentally.

I speak to some people who think I am crazy to even consider IVF given I know I can get pregnant naturally and others who think I am crazy not to have started given my age.

Go for it if you have the money, fertility is never guaranteed and given your age and other health problems you don't want to hang about. You may find you fall naturally while preparing for Ivf.

Do it now! You’ve been trying for ages.

Have you started fertility investigations? If not you should contact your gp asap. Just because you get pregnant doesn't mean you dont need ivf.

With IVF, you collect the eggs and sperm, evaluate them, mix them together to make an embryo and then wait for days to see which one makes it. Then the specialist evaluates the embryos and transfer the healthiest one, which will give you the best chance of carrying to term.

Ignore your friends' advice and seek medical assistance. People that haven't experienced this, cannot truly understand...
