Missed miscarriage…when will my cycles normalise again?

So sadly I had a missed miscarriage and the baby was measuring over 9 weeks. Only option was surgery as was too big for anything else. Had surgery on 22/03 (will be 3 weeks on Thursday). Still having a little bit of bleeding, but it’s like old blood on wiping and pregnancy test only just starting to turn negative (it’s a squinted now).

I’m driving myself crazy trying to figure out when I will ovulate again, get my next period etc! I’m technically on day D19 of cycle if count D1 from surgery but my bleeding is still going a little bit.

When did you guys ovulate after? I’m trying to figure it out from other signs but my boobs keep changing from hard to soft and difficult to asses mucus as still bleeding a bit.

Also, did anyone struggle with weight gain after later miscarriage? At first I assumed it was bloating/hormones and would settle but I’m 3 weeks on and I’m not eating much at all and still putting in weight!

Sorry for your loss.Thanks

I had a mmc that was diagnosed 3 years ago tomorrow at the same gestation as you. I had surgery and ovulated on cd31 - it was a 41 day cycle in total. I wish I'd just left it that first month as I caused myself such stress - that would be my advice in all honesty.

My cycles were long and all over the place until I conceived again, 8 months after the surgery.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I had a mmc in Oct '21 (found at 12 weeks scan, baby was 8 weeks). I had surgery and bled on/off for 2-3 weeks.
Didn't bleed again until end of Nov, and I didn't ovulate until mid Jan.

The hospital consultant told me when my body had healed I would start ovulating again (I lost a lot of blood so that was an added complication).

Conceived again in Feb, which felt like an absolute lifetime so totally get the planning!

Be kind to yourself. A mmc and surgery is traumatic. Try not to plan your cycles too much, your body will do what it needs to first. Best advice I can offer is keep up with any vitamin tablets xx

Sorry for your loss ❤️
I had a missed miscarriage in Feb, had an MVA on 28th Feb. I would have been just under 12wks pregnant, and the sac was the correct size for my gestation so had carried on growing. I bled for a few days afterwards. I was still testing positive 3 weeks later so had to go in for a scan. On my way there I had a pain in my right side which I thought felt like ovulation pains, but didn’t think much of it as I thought you couldn’t ovulate whilst having HCG in your system. Scan was clear for retained products, but she did say I was ovulating from my right side! So 3 weeks post surgery I ovulated, and I’ve just had my first period 2 weeks after that (which was heavy for 2 days and then really light spotting for 2 days). It’s awful, it feels like you’re constantly waiting for the next part. Hope you’re ok xx

Thank you guys, I appreciate you taking time to respond. Eurgh just getting fed up with waiting and not knowing what’s going on. I know I need to be patient though….never been very good at that!

@SareBear87 I also had a bad bleed during the procedure and am now anaemic. Glad to hear you conceived again after though!

This is helpful as what to expect, thank you op.
I've had a MMC too, discovered on Sunday at my 12 week scan, measuring 10w 4 days so having the surgery under GA tomorrow... :(

I was wondering how long things might take to go back to how they were before.

3rdtimelucky2022 · 12/04/2022 18:22

@NotADressPerson I’m sorry to hear it. It’s a really horrible thing to go through and I’m still working through it but it has got easier with time. I hope the surgery is okay for you, I remember feeling relieved when that part was over.

@3rdtimelucky2022 yeah I needed 2 units of blood and only just had an acceptable hb to be discharged from hospital (I was desperate to get away from there).

I felt dizzy and sick for a good 3 weeks (going up a single flight of stairs was a 15 min effort in the first week).

Please do take the time to heal. My partner was exceptional. He planned and made healthy meals, made sure I was taking my iron and vitamin tablets, helped me shower and go the loo, etc. without him I 100% would have fell into a deep depression.

It does get better. With each week I felt stronger. My first period post surgery was hard but I also felt happy my cycles were returning.

I still feel sad, but it does get better. I can now talk about it openly. Do reach out for support xx
