Higher risk for pre-eclampsia

Hi, I'm 27 and am hoping to start trying at some point this year. I have had a consultation with a doctor as it will be my first baby and had some concerns. I was told I am at higher risk for pre-eclampsia and am terrified, even though i was told things could be done to try and prevent it. I'm looking for advice and hopefully reassurance from people who have been through a similar situation. Thank you in advance,

What constitutes high risk and did they say why?

My best friend is at high risk of pre eclampsia but that is if it is left unmonitored/untreated. As she knows she's at risk and her doctors know too, she'd be put on eg aspirin straight away once pregnant and then closely monitored to make sure it's under control. With the aspirin/blood thinners I believe her 10% risk drops to 4% which is a lot more manageable.

Purely because I only have one kidney, I don't have kidney disease or anything just that it got blocked and died without being noticed. She told me id be put on the aspirin like your friend. She also told me the baby could have growth issues because of it also.

@Sugarskull2022 FWIW lots of women get put on aspirin when pregnant (lots!) and they all seem to have perfectly healthy babies so I wouldn't worry about that part.

Honestly as long as the docs are aware that you're higher risk and you get put on aspirin I think the odds will all be in your favour Flowers

I was high risk for preeclampsia (no PE in the end, but i did develop gestational hypertension at the very end of my pregnancy). I was put on asprin from 12weeks (told for my next baby, it will be from the start), had extra growth scans and a couple of consultant appointments to check on things. My baby was Small for Gestational Age, which can be related to PE / blood pressure issues, so I was advised that i would need to give birth on the delivery unit instead of the birth centre (so no water birth) so the baby could have continuous monitoring. I still had a very positive experience and was able to move around, stay active and use some of the hypnobirthing techniques i had read about.

DD was a pretty tiny 5lbs 12oz when she was born at 38w but she is now 10months and catching up fast!

I developed preeclampsia in my second pregnancy. Baby was fine. High risk in third and on aspirin from 12 weeks. Started to get some symptoms around 39weeks but baby came naturally at 39+6 so wasn't a problem in the end.

I’m at risk of preeclampsia but I’ve been monitored throughout my pregnancy. I’ve been on aspirin throughout and so far it looks like it hasn’t affected the size of my baby.
I was unwell last week and the doctors, nurses and midwives were all amazing and kept checking the signs and symptoms just to make sure it wasn’t preeclampsia.
You’ll be well looked after if your midwife/ pregnancy consultant thinks you are at risk and they will tell you all the different signs to look out for.
