Clomid 50mg PCOS

Hello

I had a miscarriage in March at 8 weeks. Currently on my first period since MC (35 days since start of MC bleed and normally have 29/30 day cycles)

I have seen my GP who has advised she can prescribe 50mg of Clomid over a 3 month period before I have to be referred back to gynaecology (the waiting list is huge! :( )

Has anyone had any luck on 50mg? I believe the cycles won’t be tracked in any way

Thanks x

@xoJellyBean sorry I didn’t even answer your question!

I thought I’d come on today/tomorrow tbh but it hasn’t happened yet. I had very regular cycles prior to my MC. I’ve only had one period since that was 35 days after I finished bleeding after the MC so this one looks like it will be longer too. Currently on CD31 and used to have a 30 day cycle. So hopefully soon!! I have to take it on day 2. Is that what you do? Do you take at morning or night? Xx

@Rainbowchasing2022 no worries 🥰 I did one month of 50mg and it didn’t work so they just disregarded that cycle. Put me straight on 100mg and I’m now on day 2! I take mine days 1-5 and at night :) took an awful sore head today though! Mixed in with the hot flushes 🤣 hopefully af shows up for you soon. Xx

Rainbowchasing2022 · 09/05/2022 22:23

It has started today! So going to start tomorrow evening I think 🤔

I contacted my GP today to ask about a day 21 test. They said yes I could book but had a message back off the lead GP basically saying it should only be prescribed by a secondary clinician due to the risks of OHSS etc. So I have a feeling they won’t give me another month after this one even if it does work, and certainly won’t look to increase if he has made that comment about a 50mg 😫

also realised my day 21 is a Sunday - so will have to go on day 22. Hoping that don’t matter too much given I’m 30 days cycle wise anyway rather than 28? This cycle was 32 though.

aw I hope this round works for you!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

looks like I’ll be facing the wait for fertility clinic referral after this one round xx

Alexis7890 · 09/05/2022 22:41

Can you get your referral started now to make the wait as short as possible? I am sure day 22 would be okay 😊

I get my hsg results tomorrow so nervous for those as it did hurt but I’m hoping that was just from my allergy to the dye and they’ll say the tubes are all clear

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/05/2022 22:52

@Rainbowchasing2022 it sucks for you but unfortunately it's correct that primary care are not meant to prescribe ovulation inducing drugs. As I said, be very careful you are being referred to assisted conception/fertility not generic gynae

@Alexis7890 mine hurt like evils and was totally clear!

Rainbowchasing2022 · 10/05/2022 06:28

@Alexis7890 got everything crossed for you that it’s clear 🤞🏼 I found mine no worse than period pain but think that’s the joys of suffering with endometriosis for so long !! 🙈 when I was having it done the girl before me was literally SCREAMING in the room. Didn’t make me feel too comfortable about having it done! 😬😬 really hope all is clear for you ❤️

@TheDaydreamBelievers it was advised by the gynaecologist at the hospital who is also the fertility specialist if you get referred via the nhs. He had sent my gp a letter advising them to prescribe it when I got in touch about fertility treatment and when I had my call with him he told me I wouldn’t need to get referred back to try clomid the GP would be given permission to prescribe. She hasn’t just done it off her own back, it’s with his permission.

I'm a GP and while this can't be individual medical advice, clomid should never be prescribed without tracking and secondary care involvement. You can only have 6 courses in your lifetime due to ovarian cancer risk so don't waste 3 of them without tracking

Rainbowchasing2022 · 10/05/2022 06:37

@passport123 it was advised via letter to the GP by the hospital to provide it when required without a referral back. I will try to speak to them today and see what they say. :)

passport123 · 10/05/2022 06:48

Still shouldn't be given without tracking. If a consultant advised me to do that I'd take it up with their medical director.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 10/05/2022 07:53

@passport123 sorry to ask a tangent Q - is that also true of letrozole or just clomid?

passport123 · 10/05/2022 08:39

Letrozole isn't a drug we start in primary care, though I'm happy to prescribe it after a consultant is started. Clomid is different and every single prescription should be given by a consultant who has arranged tracking.

passport123 · 10/05/2022 08:39

sorry 'after a consultant has started'

Rainbowchasing2022 · 10/05/2022 09:54

I have made contact with a private clinic so going to pay for the tracking just to be safe :) thank you

Alexis7890 · 10/05/2022 11:31

@Rainbowchasing2022 @TheDaydreamBelievers the pain was worth it and got the all clear yay! So the plan is to start letrozole in July as to start it at the end of what should be this cycle would mean the monitoring is when we would be in Greece so decided to start as soon as we are back. Letrozole doesn’t sound as monitored as clomid?

Rainbowchasing2022 · 10/05/2022 11:44

@Alexis7890 woohoo! So glad you got good news 😍😍 a holiday before hand to relax sounds perfect too ! Xx

OP posts:
TheDaydreamBelievers · 10/05/2022 12:20

Thanks @passport123 ! My letrozole is under the fetility clinic consultant but was just wondering if it also had a max number of attempts

Alexis7890 · 10/05/2022 14:38

Thank you @Rainbowchasing2022 the holiday was originally booked for 2021 but had to move it into this year as it was before the travel restrictions were removed so we finally get to go!

Rainbowchasing2022 · 10/05/2022 14:48

Awww have the best time! Sounds like perfect timing even if you have had to wait a year. Relaxing before hand will do you good (and make the wait a lot more bearable! :)

haven’t been to Greece but would love to go 😍 xx

Alexis7890 · 10/05/2022 15:01

@Rainbowchasing2022 thank you, it’s a hotel we’ve been to before and loved it, I love Greece it’s beautiful. Plus I thought I can enjoy all of the cocktails get massages and everything you can’t do if the treatment is successful haha. Are you feeling better about everything?x

Rainbowchasing2022 · 10/05/2022 15:29

@Alexis7890 well if it’s all inclusive as well 🤞🏼😂 definitely make the most of it! Bet the weather is so good there now too. Jealous 😂

I’m feeling okay. Going to start the clomid today I think and just pay for some tracking. I’ve got an appointment with the GP this month then to request a referral so hopefully get somewhere eventually 😬 otherwise as soon as we move we will just pay privately I think! See what happens going to just relax a bit about it all (famous last words!) xx

OP posts:
Alexis7890 · 10/05/2022 15:41

@Rainbowchasing2022 are you moving far from where you are now? This round of clomid might be just what you need you never know!! Everyone always says just relax and it’s hard but it can definitely help x

Rainbowchasing2022 · 10/05/2022 15:50

@Alexis7890 i completely agree. I always say to my partner I ain’t even going to worry about it this month. Next thing you know I’m online or chewing his ear off about it 🤣

no not too far ! Maybe like 10/15 miles so will probably result in a new GP but same Health Board 😬 xx

Rainbowchasing2022 · 12/08/2022 14:55

UPDATE

I used two months of Clomid 50mg before deciding not to use the third as we are due to move house / have holidays booked so was going to use it when we are settled in..

We had our BFP this month so a month after stopping the clomid! I assume it stays in your system a little after using.

wishing anyone using Clomid so much luck. Seems to have worked for us (and I really didn’t believe it would!!) ✨✨ xx

xoJellyBean · 12/08/2022 19:17

Aww thanks so much for the update @Rainbowchasing2022

Very encouraging since I'm on a month break from clomid🥰 did you track ovulation?

Rainbowchasing2022 · 12/08/2022 19:25

hello!

no I didn’t because we are moving we said ah we won’t try this month as it isn’t good timing and we have recently both had Covid so didn’t want to risk it if other still a little unwell. Shocked! Deffo think it must hang around in the body though !

how are you feeling? Xxx
