TTC post Complete Molar Pregnancy

First time post, so apologies if this is a bit long winded…

22/02/22 I was 6 weeks 5 days pregnant and started heavily bleeding. The next day I visited EPU and was told I was having a miscarriage and they believed it to be a complete molar pregnancy.
04/03/22 I had my D&C and have been bleeding ever since. About 3 weeks after the D&C I had massive blood clots, so was called to EPU again for another scan. They were concerned there may still be abnormal tissue, but instead of another D&C, we were to do the “wait and see” method.

I have now been referred to Charring Cross and are currently waiting to hear from them.

At 6weeks pregnant, my HCG levels were ridiculously high at 97,500. A month later they were down to 9500. As far as I’m aware this is a great result as the HCG levels are dropping.

I have been told not to get pregnant for a minimum of 6 months. However, this was very much a planned pregnancy, and we want to be pregnant again to give my son a sibling.

The main point of my post is that I just wanted to see whether anyone who has experience a complete molar, has fallen pregnant again sooner than doctors advise?

Any comments would be hugely appreciated!

Hello.. Hope you’re doing well. Sorry to hear about what you have been through.
I too have had a molar pregnancy (complete)
My HCG was at 700,000 which was extremely high!! I had a D&C in December and my levels did drop significantly to 1,911 which was amazing.. however they did start to creep back up to the 3,000 mark.
I had to go to Charing Cross (early February) and have more bloods taken, an ultra sound and x-ray.
They decided to keep me there and start me on treatment (methotrexate) which I’m still currently on.. I should be finished with treatment so soon.
I was given a 12 month wait to try to conceive again, this is important as the mole can grow back and of course no one wants that to happen and also it’s hard to track hcg if you become pregnant as they don’t know if it’s pregnancy or if hcg is going up because of molar.. (hope that makes sense)
So as hard as it it and so upsetting I really would just wait until they have said about trying again.
Wishing you all the luck 💖

Hi, very sorry for both of your losses. Grateful to join this thread for some support and shared experience. I am currently waiting for confirmation of suspected complete mole following ERPC two weeks ago. My hcg had reached nearly 300K but dropped to around 2.5K one week post-op. Having bloods again this week.
I can relate to feeling impatient to try again. I have also had 3 'normal' miscarriages since trying again after my first child so the thought of waiting is very frustrating and upsetting. However we do need to put our health first.
@KittyCatherine so sorry that you needed further treatment. At what point did your levels start to rise again? How has it been on the methotrexate?
Hope you are both doing OK xx

Hi @cheekysausage I'm based in New Zealand and had a CMP coming up 3 years ago. The rules here are different/more relaxed than over in UK I am pretty sure. Here you are cleared to try again one you have 2x consecutive weekly blood tests with less than 9 or 7 gtd hcg (I can't remember what the margin was) once that happened you were cleared by the hospital obgyn dept and could try again. I was very lucky where by it took 7 weeks to get to this point. So no 6m wait or anything like that!

So given different countries have varying "rules" I'd say taking a "NZ" approach wouldn't be the end of the world. I had a couple of extra early scans with my next pregnancy to confirm history wasn't repeating. But other than that was all normal.

There are a few Facebook groups which were helpful even just to search back through old posts/comments "my molar pregnancy support group" and "After my molar pregnancy support group"
Good luck!!!! X

Hello OP,

I had a complete molar pregnancy with my first pregnancy, a long time ago now, 12 years ago. Like you, I had a D&C to remove all tissue and was told to refrain from trying again for 6 months. We were referred to Sheffield for follow up testing to ensure that HCG was dropping to zero and although we were told to wait we pretty much got back to TTC as soon as my levels were at zero.

I fell pregnant a month later with my daughter who is now 11 years old and I am currently 26 weeks along with our son.

I hope this gives you hope that you will very much go on to have a healthy pregnancy and I began trying again as soon as I felt my body was ready to do so.

wishing you all of the luck!

Hi all, just thought I’d do a little update.
My HCG levels finally(!) dropped to normal. On 26/7/22 my blood was 3 and urine <4. I was told I’d be having monthly urine samples only for the next 6 months. Anyways, we weren’t exactly being “careful” and I ended up with a positive pregnancy test. I was extremely anxious as I wasn’t sure whether to feel happy - ‘yay I’m pregnant again’ or sad - ‘oh god is the same thing happening again’. Impatient me booked an early scan, I am 6+2 today…imagine my surprise this morning when I went to the scan..the sonographer said I had reason to be DOUBLE happy - it’s TWINS!!!!! 2 little sacs and 2 little flickering heartbeats. I prepared myself to go into that room to get bad news, so the outcome was just incredible!
