Hi, im starting a new job with the NHS soon, but will also want to TTC this year. I really struggle to understand how they word how you qualify maternity allowance online. My question is, can someone dumb down for me how long will I have to work for NHS before getting pregnant/TTC to qualify? Thank you

Have 12 months’ continuous service as an NHS employee at the beginning of the 11th week before the expected week of childbirth

I take that to mean you need to have worked for them for 12 months by the time you are 29 weeks

Hi!

Oh it’s so wordy isn’t it! Just don’t get pregnant until you work for them for 6 months and you’ll be fine! You can always ring HR and ask them too, it’s all confidential.

Good luck!

Basically you have to have worked for 6 months before you conceive. It's worded in such a weird way!

I find most policies mean you qualify for SMP and all benefits except OMP (full pay). For OMP you need to have 15 weeks before your due expected week of delivery, which begins on the Sunday of the week your date falls in.

As PP said - 6 months before you conceive. I would be careful with that though in case you miss it by just a few days cos they do something weird with the 'Sunday of the expected week of childbirth' or something like that which can change it by a few days and also if your baby is big for dates you could get bumped forward a few days. So don't cut it toooo fine ☺️

Yes absolutely, scan dates can bring your official due date forward by quite a few days even when you’ve definitely conceived on x date
