Temping question

Can anyone tell me how many days after ovulation the temp increase normally happens?

I hope I ovulated on Saturday (having had an unusually low temp on Friday and a positive OPK that day too). My temp was still low this morning. Does this mean I have not yet ovulated, or can the shift take a couple of days to happen?

Many thanks

Hi ScaryHairy, I thought that the thermal shift was quite soon after ovulation as once the egg is released progesterone levels rise which causes the temp rise. opks pick up LH surge before ovulation - someimtes up to a few days as surge can be picked up on more than 1 day..
Maybe worth another bd tonight...?
I am certainly no expert though and as I plan to chart temps next cycle I will be watching this thread with interest.
Sorry I'm not much help

AFAIK the temp shift happens the day after ovulation. However it can rise either dramatically or slowly day by day the fertility friend FAQ's say. I guess if you had a + OPK on Friday you could have ov'd Friday, Saturday or Sunday?

Is this your first month charting your temperature? The reason I ask is because every woman is different, but generally each woman follows a similar pattern from cycle to cycle. Some woman notice that their temperature shoots up the day after ovulation, but for others it can be a more gradual shift in temp.

Best thing to do is see what happens tomorrow. Not massively helpful I know, but it's all you can do really.

Do you monitor any other signs? CM usually dries up after ovulation too? But again, every woman is different, so there are no hard and fast rules. If there were we'd all get pregnant first try

i agree with what's been advised already. temping/ovulation should (i say should because everyone's different) go like this;

you'll have low temperatures prior to ovulation. an opk test will detect your lh surge - as your surge occurs just prior to ovulation, you should still have a low temperature. your thermal shift (that is, when your temps go up) occurs just after ovulation.

basically, a positive opk tells you when you are going to ovulate and a thermal shift tells you that you have ovulated.

as ready says, it's a good idea to monitor your cm too as this is a good indicator of when you've entered your fertile phase.

Thanks everyone. Sorry I couldn't reply sooner... I have been wrangling a stroppy one year old all day! I am pretty "up" on the various ways of pinpointing a rough day for ov and temped for several months before I got pg with my daughter. This is only the second month of temping this time around though so I don't yet have much of an understanding of how my body operates. I do check cm, cervix position etc, but I have noticed that since I had my daughter neither is as clear cut and easy to read as it had been previously (e.g. I get lots of days of cm).
DH and I BD'd on Fri and Sat and he is now away from home for some time, so I am trying to figure out whether it is worth me getting my hopes up at all. Also I am aware it is possible to have a positive OPK and then not ovulate, so I am hoping to get temps that confirm ovulation.
It looks like the only thing to do is to wait and see what happens tomorrow (isn't that always the way?). If my temp doesn't go up soon, then I guess either I haven't yet ovulated or am just not going to this cycle, which would be rather irksome...

OK, CM has totally gone and I have plotted my temps onto Fertility Friend. Last month it looks as though I had 2 days of low temps after ovulation and then they rose above the cover line. Looks like tomorrow is the key day to confirm ovulation then.
I really hope I ov'd on Sat afternoon or Sun morning, as that would put it 12 or 24 hours after BD respectively, which must give good odds!
