Never been pregnant

I had been on birth control for 15 years. In that time, it feels like I am the odd one out of my friends to have never had a ‘pregnancy scare.’

Since we’ve been trying for 4 months, I’ve never had any success - I don’t think sperm has come anywhere near an egg - I’ve never even had a chemical. I know it’s early to start to worry, but I’m only 30, DH’s sperm count has come back fine, and I can’t help but feel like there must be a problem…

I have friends who have been TTC same time as us, and they’ve either conceived or had chemicals.

I have confirmed ovulation, DH’s sperm is fine, we DTD a lot and always timed before during and after confirmed OPKs.

What are we doing my wrong?!

You just need to give it time. I know it’s frustrating but unfortunately not everyone conceived straight away (in fact most people don’t!) even if they do everything right. Try to relax in the knowledge you’re not aware of anything wrong and just keep doing what you’re doing. If after 12 months still no luck consider contacting the doctor for further tests.

TheSnowyOwl · 22/03/2022 20:16

Four months in isn’t very long and the overwhelming majority of women don’t even know if they have had a chemical miscarriage or not.

blockbustervideo · 22/03/2022 20:17

Four months is nothing, although I understand it feels like a lot longer.

SassyPants87 · 22/03/2022 20:18

I think it's too soon too worry and 30 is still a decent age! I didn't have my first until I was 33. Things that I did to help were take conception vitamins, use an ovulation predictor kit and use the fertilily cup. (mainly because I wanted to get up as soon as I DTD and not lie

Not lie in bed!*

I've never had a pregnancy scare either and I'm in my early thirties. We started trying in January. Its far too early to be worried yet, we have time x

Theregoesmyhomebirth · 22/03/2022 20:24

I never had a pregnancy scare in my life either. Took us two years to get DD with no obvious cause (apart from some wonky cycles on my part but accupuncture sorted that in the end). Now pregnant with twins and fell with them on the second cycle. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to it. I haven't forgotten how it was though, TTC is shite.

Motherhippo · 22/03/2022 20:27

Unfortunately not everyone conceives straight away. I had been on some form of contraception for about 12 years. I came had my contraceptive implant removed and it took 2 years to fall pregnant. We weren't actively ttc more of a "if it happens it happens" attitude. But even so it did have me worrying that there was something wrong with one or both of us as it wasn't happening. I was 28 when I fell pregnant with DD1. Remember a woman is only fertile for like 5 days in her cycle and only one or two of them days are you at your most fertile. So odds are it's going to take time for you to conceive.
Try and not stress too much and just enjoy trying to get pregnant. If you're really worried speak to your doctor but after only 4 months I'd personally not worry too much

Chanel05 · 22/03/2022 20:36

I came off the pill in June 2018 after 12 years on it. Had never had a "scare" either. I conceived 8 months later.

4 months is no time at all. Anything up to 12 is average, though I believe 6-9 is most common.

For what it's worth, although I lost my first pregnancy to mmc, I conceived after another 8 months. I'm now ttc #2 and 7 months in. I'm fully expecting to be pregnant by August.

ArtfulScreamer · 22/03/2022 20:37

We TTC DD for 5 years without a hint of a BFP and ended up having IVF despite various tests finding nothing much wrong. 18 months after she was born DS was the result of not really trying at all.

DogsAndGin · 22/03/2022 20:38

Thanks girls. I know it’s too soon, and I should try to just forget about it for now

Thank you all for your reassurance

It's only been four months, don't worry.

I never had a pregnancy scare either, in about 10 years on and off the pill. I conceived DS1 after 11 months of trying.

FlyOnTheWall89 · 22/03/2022 20:49

@DogsAndGin 8 months is the average time it takes. Some get lucky, some it takes average or longer for no rhyme or reason! X

Pompom2367 · 22/03/2022 21:48

Don't worry we tried for 6 months with ovulation sticks one month we took a break and tried to avoid getting pregnant as I was getting my first covid vaccine I feel pregnant that month lol

RosieRoww · 27/03/2022 13:27

I have been 10 years on birth control and it took me 1.5 year to conceive.

I don't think you do anything wrong, it just needs time.

stuntbubbles · 27/03/2022 13:38

18 years on the pill, never a scare. Took us 8 months with DD. Entering month 6 TTC #2. Four months is no time at all.

Totalwasteofpaper · 27/03/2022 14:03

I could have written this post 12 months ago. I fell pregnant after 6 months of "trying" (& am much older) had a fairly textbook pregnant.

Currently enjoying my first mothers day with my baby Grin
