How long did it take for the pill to leave your system?

I am on the contraceptive pill - Yasmin. We're going to start trying to conceive baby number 2 around September time however I am not sure when the best time to come off the pill is. How long did it take for it to come out of your system? Am I best coming off in September? Or a few months earlier to get it fully out my system?

Also, is it best to start taking pre pregnancy vitamins now or closer to the time? 🧐

It was immediate for me with my first baby. So, if you decide to come off early then I would recommend condoms!
I would start taking vitamins now.

I came off it on 16th Feb and my next period was 11th March.

I’d come off it a few months before so your cycle can get regular again - more for the peace of mind of knowing when your period should be (so you know if it’s late or not), and getting a more accurate due date.

7 months

I came off it at Christmas a couple of years ago and only had two periods between then and conceiving in October. I conceived on some crazy length of cycle - no idea what was going on really!

One period 2 weeks after coming off it (was on it for 10 years) fell pregnant about 4 weeks after that

It took my body 3 weeks to ovulate, but it turns out that’s my regular cycle, so it really went back to normal immediately post pill. For reference, I’m 36 and was ttc #2, had been on the pill for 2 years post dc #1. Fell pregnant cycle 3. Id start taking the vitamins now. Some take a while to get absorbed properly. COQ10 for example takes 3 months to work fully. Good luck!

Never, in terms of the long term health effects. Regarding fertility, just a few weeks.

autienotnaughty · 18/03/2022 04:41

I came off June was pregnant in September.

I came off 6 weeks ago and am now about 4 weeks pregnant. So fertility is possible straight away. However, I’d suggest coming off at least three months (or so) before TTC if you want your cycle to settle first so you can track periods and ovulation properly (and use condoms instead for that 3 months).( I had no period or withdrawal bleed at all before falling pregnant and it’s bugging me that I don’t know exactly how pregnant I am 😆) best of luck with it!

I conceived straight away. Unfortunately I miscarried (unconnected to the pill) and dating the pregnancy and its viability was difficult. I'd recommend have one period off the pill before trying.

stopped taking the pill, pregnant 3 days later

Nightwithhertrainofstars · 18/03/2022 06:26

I'd agree with PP, it's a good idea to stop taking it a few months before you want to start trying. It took five weeks for my period to return after stopping Cerazette and I've just had a second period after another five weeks so not sure what's going on there.. My periods seem lighter but not sure if that's because of having given birth before or whether it's still the effects of the progesterone-only pill (one of the things it does is thin the lining of the uterus). I'd also agree with starting pre-pregnancy supplements now if money is no problem. Fertility doctors tend to recommend starting 6 months before you conceive, if possible. If you're not so flush you could just take Folic acid for a few months and then get a more complete supplement for the three months before you plan to conceive. Best of luck!

3 months is a good length of time, you can start taking vitamins now!

My periods didn't return for nearly a year, it's different for everyone though.

ralanne · 18/03/2022 11:26

It was 8 months before I had my first period after stopping.

OtiMama · 18/03/2022 12:52

For me, no period, I was pregnant within days of coming off it.

I would start folic acid etc now.

MintGreenLife · 18/03/2022 18:18

After 7 months by cycles were still all over the place, that’s when I fell pregnant, so not sure how long it would have taken to sort itself out x

CupidStunt24 · 18/03/2022 21:57

First pregnancy, I came off the pill in November, had a period in March and decided to try, got pregnant. Second time, came off the pill, no period, but found out 4wks after coming off the pill I was pregnant, so had fallen pregnant within 2wks of coming off the pill. Unfortunately that has just ended in miscarriage, but it happened quickly x
