Hi,

We are soon to start TTC no. 2. I came off the pill about 4weeks ago, still no period (not even a withdrawal bleed) yet. This means that it’s not possible for me TTC properly as I’ve no idea where I am in my cycle and probably not even ovulating. But whenever AF does decide to return, I hope to start trying properly. What is the best way to do this without becoming utterly obsessed? Im already symptom spotting, Googling etc and haven’t even been properly trying! I think I’ll have to put myself on a strict Googling and POAS ban when the time comes πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ But what is the best way to figure out my cycle and know when to DTD? Worried that ovulation testing may contribute to the obsessive thing…

TIA Smile

If you really know your body you will know by when you get a lot of stretchy, egg white type CM which is usually only generated on/around your fertile week. I did find ovulation kits helpful while my body was getting off pill hormones and finding its routine. It turned out that while most people have a 14/14 day split of their cycle with ovulation in the midldle mine was more like 20/10 so if I used the normal metrics i'd have missed it (this was for my second pregnancy). Ultimately, with my DD we weren't TTC and still got pregnant while just randomly DTD once a week, and that was within 4 months of no pill. If the obsessiveness gets to you, a lot of people seem to do great with looking for changes in mucus and writing down their dates to track. I'd personally rather take ovulation tests for 1 or 2 months, and know where things really were at, but that is just me. I think it usually takes up to 3 months to fully stabilise after the pill, and the majority of people conceive within 3-6 months, with 25% chance of conception on any cycle. The odds are pretty good, even without ovulation tests or checking. Good luck OP!

Thank you so much for your reply, that’s super helpful! Hoping my period decides to return at some point soon so It can then settle and I can get to know my body’s rhythm. I’ve had a fair few aches and period-like pains over the past 5 days so I’m hoping it’s my body trying to get things moving. I have a daughter who is 8 years old but conceived her by accident, this is the first time I’ve taken so much notice of my body’s (lack of) cycle!

Thanks again πŸ™‚
