Hello,

I had an MVA for a missed miscarriage 2 weeks ago, the dr said to take a pregnancy test in 3 weeks and if positive ring them. I have stopped bleeding now and had some niggling pains down in my right hand side. So I did a urine sample and tested both an ovulation stick and a pregnancy test in the same sample. Both are very positive. I know it’s only 2 weeks, not the 3 that I was advised. Does the OPK pick up HCG? The other reason I used the OPK is because I have had really stretchy CM today too. Sorry if I’m coming off desperate, I’m not actually TTC and not planning just yet, not until I know I’m clear of everything. I just feel an odd sense of needing to know what’s going on with my body!

Thank you x

Yes opk can pick up HCG.
I had a MC and pregnancy tests were still showing positive nearly 5 weeks later. I didn’t test after that because I was scanned to see if I was actually still pregnant, sadly not. I’m sorry for your loss Flowers
OPKs test surges of LH in your urine. A pregnancy test detects the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Both of these (LH and hCG) are known as glycoproteins, and share similar protein components. They're so similar, in fact, that ovulation tests are sometimes unable to distinguish between them

Thank you so much! I did think as much and I think I read that exact thing when googling after posting. I was nearly 11wks by the time I had the MVA and sac was still growing, so assume my HCG would be high. It’s just strange with the niggle pains and CM, but I suppose there’s lots going on in there at the moment! Thank you x

I had a MMC a few weeks later than you and it took almost three months to get a negative pregnancy test. I’d be really surprised if it’s fertile CM you have.

I often use to use OPKs as pregnancy tests because they were cheaper. Just as reliable in being positive when pregnant though in my experience.

Thank you! Yea I’ve decided it’s just HCG being picked up still. They don’t seem to be fading at all, although dr was pretty positive they got everything and was really doubtful I’d still be getting positive pregnancy tests within a few weeks. I’ll just wait til next week and ring if they’re still positive like she said. Never thought being so out of tune with my body would bother me so much! X

I had a d&c in November. I ovulated whilst still having hcg in my system (measured my bbt), had fertile mucus and my usual ovulation signs. I came on my period whilst still testing faintly positive. My period came on my usual cycle day (25). I don't think that's typical but obviously can happen.

I'm sorry for your loss ❤️

CupidStunt24 · 11/03/2022 20:26

Thanks @VenusStarr! I just keep seeing that your body won’t get back to normal until the tests are negative. It’s nice to know that hopefully things are shifting back to normal in the background even if I don’t feel it! I was so focussed on getting n the physical side of it all out if the way, the op, the bleeding etc. but this part is really dragging and makes me feel like it’s not “over” yet when i just want to move past it. There is of course the added concern of not knowing when to try again, but that’s not what it’s about at this moment, it’s more about not knowing when I will start getting back to “normal”. Sorry for your loss too xxx

hey lovely- really sorry this happened to you. I had a misses miscarriage a couple of years back and it still showed positive for 8 weeks after and the outcome was that there was still pregnancy tissue left over and i had to get a D&C to remove everything and a few days later it went to negative. Sending lots of love xx

CupidStunt24 · 11/03/2022 21:59

Thank you @TTCBABYNO2xx. I think this is my fear, it doesn’t sound like many people get a negative after the 3 weeks the drs suggest! Not sure where they have got that number from but it doesn’t seem to apply to many. I think it’s this feeling of my body being “broken” whilst going through all this. I know it sounds silly xx

I had a scan today as I’m still testing positive 3 weeks after the surgery. I told the consultant I had niggling pains in my right hand side yesterday before she even started scanning, told her it felt like ovulation pains (we both laughed it off knowing it’s probably not possible with a positive test). She scanned me and confirmed I was ovulating! She could see the eggs and everything. So it is actually possible to ovulate whilst having HCG in your system. She couldn’t even explain why or how, she just said it’s science and there’s lots we still don’t know! Xx
