TTC - really irregular periods

Anyone TTC with really irregular periods? My cycles range from 30-100 but rarely have a 30 day cycle, it’s usually 50, 60, 90! Basically in the last year and a bit of ttc I’ve had around 4 -5 cycles! Feels horrible not knowing when is best, whether I’m ovulating and if I am, having such little chances to get pregnant! Wondering if there’s anyone in the same position as me?!

Me! My cycles vary from 45 days at their longest to 28 days this month! Not even sure I’m ovulating as I got a positive OPK reading then had a period a week after. It’s a nightmare isn’t it? There is hope though, my mum was the same and had 2 children

Essexgirlupnorth · 10/03/2022 19:37

OP if you have been trying a year with no success go to your GP for tests and a referral to gynecology.
I have cycles like yours and PCOS. I did conceive naturally after I lost weight which regulated my cycle. But they can give you clomid to help you ovulate.

Peonies94 · 10/03/2022 19:47

@Essexgirlupnorth I have been to GP had a scan, and bloods (random day) told to try another 6 months and come back as I had one regular cycle just before (30 days) but back o to CD39 now and no sign of ovulation! I could do with losing weight too! I am trying!🤦🏻‍♀️ Just find it so stressful which makes it so much harder!

@Aikatarina ahh the OPKs drive me insane! Still getting flashy smilies on digital! CD39 now, just hope it doesn’t go on for 90 days, feels so hard feeling like I missed 3 months of trying!

I have pcos and my periods have always been all over the place there either all or nothing but last April I decided to get myself an ovusense I'm on my 5th cycle and this month after starting inofolic alpha I ovulated for the first time in 11 months. I also need to loose weight which I have done in the past but so easy to fall off the band wagon it only takes a birthday or something and I'm back to square one but I'm also at the point where the doctors have refused to help me until I get the weight off.

Peonies94 · 10/03/2022 20:08

@Manifest2022 ahh okay I’ll look into those! Ahh it’s so hard isn’t it! My weight just yo-yos so badly! I do really need to lose weight but I imagine I’ll be Told the same, that I have to lose weight to receive any help!

I’ve only had virtual appointments with gynae so far, they said to get back in touch if My irregular periods continue, so maybe I’ll contact them in a few months! In the meantime hopefully I’ll lose some weight!

@Peonies94 very hard! They asked for my bmi to be below 30 and as soon as I get to that I can book back in so that's my next step 🤞🤞.

Morning, this seems like a useful group to be a part of Smile
I'm at the start of the TTC journey, but I've never had a regular cycle so am pretty worried about it all. I had to be on Microgynon back to back due to severe pain, was then put on the coil so I hadn't had a period in around 9 years - and before that they could range from 2 a year to 2 a month!
Had the coil out in Jan, had first AF mid Feb..
Had 9 days of flashing smiles, then yesterday had a static! Praying that this will mean I may have regular-ish but long cycles? Who knows...
Also had emergency surgery when I was about 20, followed by 2 more operations due to appendicitis then severe scar tissue, I was told at the time this could have caused problems with me conceiving but I was very woozy at the time and can't recall the full convo - they also didn't make a note of this on my file Sad
So full of quite a bit of fear about finally TTC...
Plus like you both said, bit of weight to lose!!
I used Noom when trying to lose weight, it was REALLY helpful and I managed to lose 2.5 stone. Unfortunately with health issues I then put the weight back on and now can't afford it again...
@Peonies94 I'd probably get back in touch with them after a month or so? These things always take longer than you think (not had gynae appointments but other health issues have been ongoing for years) so put lots of pressure on them to really delve..? If you feel ready to of course!

Peonies94 · 11/03/2022 17:21

@alwaysseeingstars ahh I was on the same pill back to back too due to terrible periods! That seems quite good considering you’ve only just come off the coil! Hopefully you’ll not have any issues like your concerned about 🤞!

Oh what’s noom? It’s so hard isn’t it! I’ve recently gained weight too after my wedding so desperately need to sort myself out!

I'm currently calorie counting but not cutting anything out like gluten or dairy and not fasting or anything as dieting is hard enough for me so just starting with the basics then adding in some walking im hoping to shift some weight.

GeneLovesJezebel · 12/03/2022 10:36

I was like that when trying for my first, so I kept a diary of cervix height and discharge to find out when my best days were.

Peonies94 · 12/03/2022 13:57

@Manifest2022 good luck! Yes best to do something that’s achievable!

I am similar to you all. Cycles of 49-161 days. Trying for 2 yrs. Now had all fertility assessments and being put on letrozole whenever period next arrives.

Lou98 · 12/03/2022 22:30

My periods were also irregular, they always have been since I started my period when I was 9!

It took us 2 years to conceive our Son (who is now 10 months old!) - I would highly recommend the MyOva Inositol tablets - they are aimed at women with PCOS and I found they made such a difference to how regular my periods were. We had a MC at 18 months TTC and both that month and the month we finally got pregnant with our Son I was using them!

Best of luck in your journey OP! The best thing to do is have regular sex, it's really frustrating not knowing when you're ovulating etc but have regular sex and you can't go wrong with dates!

CharlotteYorkMacDougal · 13/03/2022 16:37

Like @Manifest2022 I also have PCOS and saw a big improvement in regularity when I started taking Inofolic, my cycle now varies between 29 and 41 days but it could be months and months previously. I’ve also started using an OvuSense and for me it’s been quite consistent in saying I’ve ovulated each cycle and then bleeding ten/ eleven days later despite the irregular periods so I would recommend that too. Make sure you Google for a discount code if you get an OvuSense as they’re expensive! I’ve never tried OPKs to compare because all the ones I’ve seen say they’re not suitable if you have PCOS.

Even with the above I’ve had no success so am waiting for my NHS referral to come through and looking at private treatment options as like a few other people have already said my BMI is too high to be eligible for NHS IVF if that’s the best/ only option Sad

Manifest2022 · 13/03/2022 18:46

@CharlotteYorkMacDougal yes we seem to be very similar with what we are trying and our pcos I have only just started taking my inofolic properly as I got told about it years ago and wasn't consistent in taking it but I literally took it for 7 days and my ovusense said I have ovulated which was the first time in 11 months minimum as I wasn't tracking or having regular periods before this.
As for the dieting it's so much easier said than done especially with pcos and not getting results you feel you deserve, it starts off a vicious cycle then I end up putting more weight on than I started with 🤦‍♀️ but I also managed to to get to a healthy bmi a few years ago now and still didn't get caught but at the same time I didn't have the inofolic or ovusense to help.
