IVF timeline

Hi all,
So we have our first consultation at the end of the month to start IVF.
I was just wondering what sort of timeline everyone had in terms of treatment.
Did you walk away with a treatment plan on the first consult? Or even medication? Did they baseline scan you there aswell?

Any timeline at all would be helpful, just curious :)

@Pcosfighter67 sorry I don't have anything to add but hope it's ok for me to follow as I am having an appointment tomorrow to discuss the next steps, and I'm heading towards IVF (I don't think IUI has much success, so want to move straight into IVF).

Could I please ask if you're funding privately or through NHS?

Ours was a private consultation but we did come out of the first session with a treatment plan.
It didn’t start immediately as they have to wait for the right time in your cycle but we had it all mapped out ready to go.

Wishing you and @Tinkerbell098 every success for your treatment. It’s a tough process but I’m now grateful every day for my little miracles

On the initial consultation we discussed timelines for the protocol that I would be on and I had a scan. Then we discussed when we would be able to start.
Came back for the drugs and needles/education and given my timeline then and told to start at a specific date.
I didn't exactly follow the timeline as treatment didn't go as expected and it took longer for me but it gave us a good idea of what is done when.
Wishing you all the best xx

@ladyinthecampervan did you start on a long protocol? Is that the standard one to start on?

Pcosfighter67 · 09/03/2022 12:11

@Tinkerbell098 it's nhs funded :)

Thank you for your replies everyone :) I would feel great if I came away with a plan and a baseline scan :) our clinic is an hour and half drive each way so hopefully they get as much as they can done in fewer appointments 🤞
We are so excited, it's been a long 6 years and this is the closest we've come to starting a family!

We had a treatment plan set out during the first consultation. I had to go back for my baseline scan as it had to be done at a particular time of the month. DH also had to go back for repeat SA.
Once the treatment starts, you normally have to go in for bloods, daily scans on specific weeks, (obv depending on your plan etc) so is the long distance going to be sustainable for you OP? Or are they able to scan you closer to where you live?

Pcosfighter67 · 09/03/2022 12:36

We've had a repeat SA done this week so won't need that luckily.
The long distance isn't a problem for us, we had two options transfer our care complete and start in April or do scans and meds at our local hospital gyne clinic and the ivf at the long distance clinic but start in July/August.
We wanted to get things moving and fast, we've done enough waiting around now. :)

Yes, I think that's the default unless they think there are other circumstances at play where a short protocol would be better.

Just to echo what @Giraffaelina said though - near the end of the protocol you'll be there every other day for scans and bloods to make sure they get the best from your cycle. Obviously something to bear in mind if it's a long way away!

ladyinthecampervan · 09/03/2022 12:37

Sorry, just seen that you've sorted a plan for the long distance.

Hooray to getting started soon!
