PCOS recurrent miscarriage

Hi has anyone experienced recurrent miscarriage due to pcos? I've been trying to find information online but most articles/forums talk about difficulties in getting pregnant. I don't have that issue as I conceive easily but can't keep the baby past 6 weeks.

I went through my third miscarriage in January and decided to go private for testing rather than wait for the nhs. On my first appointment I got diagnosed with pcos which I can't understand why the nhs didn't address this on scans especially when I told them I had some pcos symptoms 🙄 currently waiting for my period before having the rest of the tests privately.

I read It Starts With an Egg and am taking what feels like a million supplements. This includes NAC, Myo-inositol, folate, Ubiquinol, vitamin D, vitamin E and B6 and B12. I also take vitamin C and alpha lipoic acid and omega 3. I've been following a zero carb diet for the last 3 weeks.

Anyone have any success stories of successful pregnancies after miscarriage due to pcos? Don't have any children and feeling a bit lost.

Hi @oly1977 I have PCOS but have never had a miscarriage (or been pregnant). PCOS usually causes difficulties in conceiving because out of balance hormones means that we often ovulate irregularly or not at all (which clearly isn't your problem as you are conceiving!). PCOS can increase the risk of miscarriage due to progesterone levels not rising enough in early pregnancy - this can be remedied by taking progesterone supplements in the first level of pregnancy. I understand that is the only miscarriage risk factor PCOS causes - other reasons for miscarriage would not be directly related to a PCOS diagnosis.
Was your PCOS diagnoses based on just a scan or blood tests and symptoms as well? A scan is not enough to diagnose PCOS on it's own so I wanted to check. Were you prescribed progesterone during your earlier pregnancies as if not, that might be something to consider next time you conceive? Have you looked into your partner as well - often recurrent miscarriage can be due to male factor infertility such as DNA fragmentation (which doesn't show up on a standard sperm analysis).
Also I just wanted to say - I follow a low carb diet too to manage my PCOS symptoms but we need carbs to function - and to ovulate! - so I would definitely not suggest a low carb diet, but sticking to smaller portions of low GI carbs.
I'm really sorry for your losses and good luck x

Sorry I meant I would suggest a low carb diet, but not a zero carb diet, above!

Hi
I have recurrent miscarriages & pcos. I don't conceive easily at all, it took us 2.5 years to get pregnant then I miscarried, had another mc a year later.
It's now been 4 years since we started trying & I'm currently 8+4 weeks pregnant. I'm on 150mg of Aspirin daily & I'm on progesterone to sustain the pregnancy as with pcos (like above poster says) the problem lies alot with progesterone- I don't make any.

We went through a private fertility place for ovulation induction & it was my consultant there who prescribed the progesterone.
It was the miscarriage clinic who instructed the use of Aspirin.

This is actually my 10th pregnancy, I have an 8 year old too, alongside a lot of losses throughout my life (I'm only 29).

Hope this helps x

Sadly there is a link. I also have PCOS and recurrent miscarriage. Metformin and progesterone and aspirin helped me stay pregnant successfully

@magnoliasinbloom thanks for your advice. I had a scan and bloods and also have symptoms which I've tried to address before. I find the nhs so frustrating. No I didn't take progesterone before because the nhs said I couldnt have it even though a consultant had sent them a letter advising them to prescribe it. It all really winds me up. I think I will go to the consultant the minute I get a bfp (whenever that may be). Thanks, got my low GI books at the ready!

@Pepperlypue sorry about your previous losses and it's good to hear that your current pregnancy is going well. Sounds like progesterone is something I could definitely do with getting next time. Hope everything goes well for you 😌

@Fredsgirl19 my consultant mentions metformin but wanted me to finish off the other tests first which will hopefully be this week! Glad to hear you has a successful pregnancy in the end! It's just all this waiting about in the meantime which is the worst part isn't it

Hi @oly1977 I know this is an old post but I am exactly where you were a few years ago and wondering if you could give an update or any tips. I have pcos but regular cycles and two miscarriages so far. No children yet it’s heartbreaking.
