Gaining weight TTC - anyone else?

So i'm currently on my 3rd cycle TTC baby number 2 (dd is 3.5) early days I know, but at age 36 I am feeling the pressure and getting myself ridiculously stressed and have convinced myself that it just won't happen ! My bmi is currently 19 and my consultant has recommended I get this to 20 in order to increase my chances of conception - has anyone else found that gaining a few pounds helped them to conceive? Also anyone else on a journey to conceive their second? Looking for any support/tips along the way!

I’d be interested to responses to this too! I’ve been ttc for nearly a year, my BMI is 19.5 and my GP has also suggested I try and eat a bit more/ do less exercise - I’m a bit sceptical of this making much of a difference, mainly as I’m in the healthy bmi zone rather than being underweight, have regular periods, don’t feel I do that much exercise, plus my sister is slimmer than me and recently had a baby. Would be good to know if getting your BMI to 20/21 helped anyone.

Hey, it's interesting that your GP has also suggested increasing your weight, even though according to the nhs website it's a healthy bmi! Apparently my consultant said that a bmi of 20 is more in the fertility zone, but with regular periods etc I don't see how weight is impacting on conception chances. lt would be good to hear of other people's input on this. Why is TTC so damn hard and stressful!

A good friend of mine TTC for over a year, her GP told her to try and gain weight. Like you she was at a healthy BMI range and worked out a lot. Her GP told her that BMI alone is not saying a lot, there are several other things to take into consideration, such as body fat percentage, what your diet looks like and how often you go to the gym / run / whatever it is you're doing.
Not saying your situation is the same, but my friend actually didn't eat enough fat for example, and started training 3x a week instead of 6x, and she got pregnant a few months later.
