Hello lovelies. I am new to this forum and come in attempt to find some help and advice. Me and my fiancé have finally decided to start trying for our first baby. On the 28th January 2022, I had my nexplanon implant removed, which I had inserted in march 2019. three days after the removal, I got a positive OPK. Four days after that, I had my first "period" that came with all the typical symptoms. I bled for around 4 days. 10 days after this bleeding ended, I got another positive OPK along with a very sharp, constant pain in my left ovary. I was positive that this was ovulation pain, however the next day, I started another four day period. This meant it had been 16 days since the beginning of my last bleed.

I am obsessively taking OPK tests, but whenever I have a positive result... I start bleeding almost instantly after! What does this mean?!?!??

I suffer from anxiety and TTC has triggered this a lot! I just feel so alone and confused as I am so new to tracking my cycle and feel like I'm doing everything wrong! I feel silly admiring this, but I truly believed I would conceive straight away!!

I am concerned at how short my cycles have been and completely at a loss with tracking them! Can anyone offer me advice/support. Especially if you have experience with removing nexplanon to TTC

Thanks in advance ❤️

Your hormones have gone a bit wonky due to the sudden withdrawal of their steady dose of artificial hormones. They'll settle down again, but it may take a bit of time.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is stop peeing on things and just chill and have sex when you feel like having sex. OPKs probably aren't really useful to you at this stage when your hormones are fluctuating. Track your periods and let everything else go.

Hi im new to this page this is my first post I had my implant (implanon) removed on 6th Jan 2022 and still haven't took period. I did have what i thought could have been spotting on 1st Feb for 3 days was very light. Been taking constant preg tests but all negative. That was my 3rd time on implant and had that one for 2 years and had it removed to try for 2nd baby with the previous implants my periods returned straight away and I had my son in between them. Should I go to doc to have this checked or does anyone know if this is normal today is 48 days after removal.

Heyyy!! I wish I could help but I'm completely in the same boat trying to figure out what's normal and not normal. I've had two "periods" since coming off the implant. All the same symptoms, heavy bleed ect. However they were only 16 days apart!! Which seems to be too short to be an actual menstrual cycle, I'm wondering if these are just withdrawl bleeds from the removal, but who knows?!! Had lots of positive OPKs & keep testing negative on pregnancy tests, so I think maybe my body is just adjusting!! I am praying I get my cycle back to normal soon... I am desperate for a baby😢

This is a really great book www.tcoyf.com/ and website
To learn about your cycle and figure out what is going on.

I’m about to have my implant removed after 3 in a row, and the pill before that- I’m fascinated to know what life without hormonal contraception is like!

Sorry op, I can’t help yet, but I think not worrying for now (easier said than done of course!) Give your body a chance to readjust before giving it too much thought.

dmb91 · 24/02/2022 00:46

@LS1991
I had my implant removed 2nd July, had some light spotting 7 weeks later, finally had a period start 1st feb.
You could try your drs but mine wouldn't do anything until it had been six months without a bleed, even then all they did was refer me for a scan which I'm still waiting for.
Apparently it's very normal although I was never told this at any appointments (implant insertation, change or removal), only ever told that fertility would resume straight away.
Hopefully you don't have to wait as long as I did for AF!

LS1991 · 24/02/2022 14:48

Hi all thank you for your replies i took period this morning so 49 days it took after removal I'm hoping that is me back to normal now. Will see how it goes.

Excited101 · 28/02/2022 09:40

I had mine removed on Friday and came on my period yesterday. I guess some of it will depend on what point of your cycle you’re at when it’s taken out.

Hi yes. I've had two period like bleeds since removal, however they were only 16 days apart! My app is now saying I'm officially one day late, due to it being another 16 days since my last "period".

Hi @itselliehere - I consider myself an experienced ttcer!

It can take up to 6 months after coming off of hormonal contraception before your cycle begins to regulate. You could make an appointment with the nurse but there's not much that can be done other than giving it time, which is not what you want to hear I know.

All being well, it's normal to take up to 12 months for a healthy couple to conceive. It can be a big shock not to conceive immediately but a small minority of people actually do!

To put it into context, I fell pregnant in February 2019 and I conceived on my 8th cycle of trying. Unfortunately, that was a mmc. I started ttc again in May 2019 and fell pregnant again in December 2019 - after another 8 months of ttc. My dd was born in September 2020. I'm now ttc #2 and this is my 6th month/6th cycle! We had fertility tests privately before ttc a few years ago and we were considered to have excellent fertility. I'm afraid it really is just down to luck! There's only a 25% chance of falling pregnant on any given, perfect cycle.

Amber17 · 28/02/2022 15:38

I had mine out last week so very interested in everyone’s experience.

Did you get any periods while on nexplanon? My natural cycles app said not to log the first bleed as a period because it’s just withdrawal not necessarily the start of a cycle. Hopefully this cycle it settles to a more normal length for you.

Excited101 · 28/02/2022 15:41

I had regular ‘periods’ for the few years most recently on the implant. I’ve also had months/years with nothing and other times had period almost constantly!

Bundaberg84 · 28/02/2022 15:43

@itselliehere the app isn't very helpful for now, as it will calculate your next period based on your last cycle, and your last cycle was, well, very off to say the least. But that's very normal if you're going off hormonal contraception. I also don't think opks are the way to go right now as they also won't tell you if you ovulated or not, they will just tell you if you have a surge in lh hormones, that's it. Your body can try to gear up for ovulation and not ovulate, try again, you get it.

boringperson123 · 28/02/2022 19:50

I'm the same if it makes you feel any better. Had my implant out in January and my periods are really close together, every 2-3 weeks. Before my implant I had long cycles (5-6 weeks). It's driving me mad

itselliehere · 28/02/2022 19:51

Today I did a pregnancy test, and saw a very faint line which my friends confirmed was there. It was one of the co-op £4 , 99% accurate tests.
I did the test, waited the full 5 minutes and of course, spotted the very faint line. The test strip is encased in a tube of plastic, with a small clear plastic window, so you can read the results. I wasn't sure wether the line was just a shadow, so popped the test strip out of its plastic casing. The line was even clearer now the plastic window was removed. I got so excited and stupidly started planning my future as a mum. I waited a good few hours, before nipping back to my local supermarket and buying a clear blue. My husband told me i needed to double check my result before I got too excited. However it was far too late for this, after all, I had mentally planned out my nursery theme.

I did my clear blue pregnancy test, waited the 3 minutes, and confidently turned over the test, expecting to have my pregnancy confirmed, only this time... the test was clearly negative 😢

My heart feels broken! And my husband believes my reaction is totally dramatic. He just can't understand why I am so upset... after all, there's always next month! His blunt response has possibly made me even more upset, and I'm currently sat by myself like a big teary mess! Grieving the loss of a pregnancy that never was!!! But for those short few hours, I experienced what it was like to have a positive test! And now it's negative, I am just so indescribably upset.

I feel so pathetic because after all, there really is bigger issues going on in the world right now! I just feel a huge sense of comfort through typing this out, hoping someone might read this that can assure me I'm not alone on this journey of desperately trying to become a mum.
I am so sorry for the rant, once I started I simply could not stop! I actually feel surprisingly better for getting this out☹️

Oh @itselliehere that’s so frustrating - especially the reaction from your husband! Might it just be that different tests have different hcg thresholds and it’s too early for the CB? Give it a few days and test again?

Excited101 · 28/02/2022 22:27

Oh I can understand your disappointment ellie a month is a long time to wait! I’m not at that stage yet but I’d be exactly the same, even though we’re not going to ‘actively try’ for a while 😬

justsippingsometea · 01/03/2022 14:57

Sounds like ovulation bleeding OP.

Not uncommon, I used to have it, if it carries on then consult your GP.

The month I got pregnant I had an ovulation bleed that turned in to almost a full blown period - must have been implantation!

georgiexo · 01/03/2022 23:42

My experience probably won’t help much but I have been on contraception since I was 16 mainly the pill then got the implant in 2016, never had periods whilst I was on it. Had it removed in 2018 to TTC and nothing happened for 10 months, no periods no ovulations nothing. I put it down to the length of time I’d been on contraception. My doc put me on some tablets that induce periods? But not necessarily ovulation. Anyway they seemed to do the trick and my opk picked up before I even bled and we conceived first try. I had my daughter October 2020 and I’m just about to get my bar out again to try for baby no2 but I am expecting it to be up to a year before I can fall pregnant like last time. If it happens before great but I’ve personally taken longer before so who knows!

Everyone is different and it depends on so many different things, I never had a real cycle like others say they have a 21 or 28 day cycle I’m like huh!? I’ve never ever known what my cycle is so I have to just wing it.

If the £4 test had a feint line try again in a few days - first response are more accurate than clearblue. Goood luck my honey, your time will come try not to stress, I know it’s hard xxx
