Hiya

I have just turned 37 and I have been through an awful time ttc.
I started ttc near the end of August and then my cycle seemed to abruptly stop.
My cycle was absent for 4 months in total. In all of that time I carried out numerous tests and spent a fortune only to keep getting a BFN.
I eventually had a blood test done which showed I had a underactive thyroid and a high FSH level It never occured to me at the time to ask what my fsh and thyroid level was as I didn,t really understand it at the time, and I am only now starting to understand it by looking it up on the internet and coming onto mumsnett.
My doctor put the high fsh and my absent AF down to the thyroid problem she said my progesterone was okay.
I am now on thyroxine.
I have been taking thyroxine for about 6 weeks now and I have since had my AF again for the first time.
I am now ttc again after aproximately a 1 month break I suppose I am figuring that if my cycle has reappeared I may be in with a chance of concieving.
I am currently on cycle day 25 so my AF should be due around the 7th of January.
I am worried that it will do another disappearing act.
I am getting myself all worked up again as I am concerned that having an underactive thyorid is going to hamper my chances of concieiving and this coupled with my age also concerns me.
I am sitting here every day wondering if I may have just managed to concieve.
Just to mention that I did my own FSH test at home and it showed up negative meaning it wasn't high my AF turned up a couple of days later.
I am due to have another blood test done on the 7th of january to check my thyroid and hormone levels again.
I am also wondering if I could be entering an early menopause as its in my family between the ages of 38 and 40.
I am sorry if I sound irrational but this ttc business has really messed my head up. I feel that I have loads of questions I want to ask my doctor but I will have to wait and see what my next blood test shows.
By the way does anybody know of what importance your progesterone level is when ttc.

You sound really stressed. I know where you are coming from about ttc messing with your head (I'm 36 and have been ttc for 5 months with no luck yet). Can't answer your medical questions, sorry, but if you are on thyroxine now the thyroid issue should be taken care of. Best of luck, and hope someone can answer your progesterone qu soon

Hi ZEZ

I can share in your frustration. I have been TTC no.2 for about 10 months now with no joy.

I am still jumping through hoops trying to find out why it isn't happening. I had the day 1-5 bloods which came back normal, but my day 21 bloods indicated high testosterone and low progesterone.

GP and Lab think I have PCOS, but now have wasted 3 months taking blood tests and waiting for hospital appointment for ultrascan.

I have read that if you have hypothyroidism and you are on medication that it seems it is not impossible to correct. They don't ever tend to say that it will prevent you from falling pregnant.

From what my GP told me and I have read.....you need your progesterone levels to be high in the luteal phase ( time after ovulating ) to maintain a pregnancy. When your progesterone levels start to drop, the lining of the uterus starts to prepare to shed. Therefore, a pregnancy cannot be maintained.

This is what I suspect my problem is as I tend to have short luteal phases...around 9 - 12 days.

Normal length for succesfful pregnancy is 12-16 days.

Anyway, Good luck! And moan as much as you want, it is nice to find other people to talk to that understand what you are going through.
