Advice? Which referral do I need

Hi, hoping someone might have experience of this or someone with medical experience might stop by. . .

I have a neurological condition which required neurosurgery when I was a teenager leaving me with nerve damage/pain. For this I take a medication which is incompatible with pregnancy - not a problem up until now but my partner and I would like to try for our first child later this year.

I will not be able to manage without medication but would like to understand the best choice of medication for minimal impact on baby whilst also working for me.

So far I’ve been referred to obstetrics for pre-conception advice, pain-management and they have considered referring me to neurology. All referrals are taking a very long time to come through (understandably after the last couple years) but are also proving a bureaucratic nightmare to find out about and I am considering paying for a private consultation to get the advice I need. (Should add I’m also 34 so don’t want to waste time).

But who from? I don’t want to waste money on one consultation only to be told it’s actually the other I need to speak to. My initial thoughts are that it’s probably neurology as they will know the most about nerve damage and which drugs will work best but thought you lovely people might be able to help.

Hey I've been waiting all day to hear back from my friend on this so I could help you. She has some complex medical issues - pots, eds, high blood pressure and kidney issues etc and is considering her options for ttc so recently went for a private consultation to discuss whether it would be possible and what impact her conditions would have on the pregnancy and birth. She went to an obstetric physician (physician - not gynae, that's important!) and he methodically went through every risk factor with her with her. She thought it was a great appointment so I hope something like that could help you too!
