Starting TTC, clueless

Hi,
I've tried to read some existing threads, however there are a lot of abbreviations used in this topic and I'm struggling to make a lot of them out.

My husband and I are going to start TTC next month and I'm just wanting some advice on what things I should be doing and maybe some apps etc that help me to know when I'm most fertile.

I've started to take folic acid tablets but that's all so far. Any help and advice would be appreciated.

You beat me to it!

More practically, start taking a folic acid supplement.

Justkeeppedaling · 27/01/2022 18:34

Oh, and stop using condoms Grin

Evening @Brideandprejudice 👋🏼 If only it was simple as the advice above!

I'm currently TTC #3 and I have very irregular cycles/periods too. If you know your cycle length and previous period dates it helps, I use Flo app and use Clearblue digital ovulation sticks then also use the internet cheapies to match with them. I don't get typical ovulation signs so it helps me know when I'm ovulating.

Also I had no success last month so this month started testing a lot earlier in my cycle.

Good luck xx

Hi op it's good to track your cycles so you know when you are ovulating but if you are just starting out trying to conceive just carry on as you are with no contraception and see what happens for now

Hey and thanks so much for the advice! I have always had irregular periods so went on the pill last year as I was advised this could help to make my cycle more regular. Been off it since October and definitely seen an improvement, but like you I'm never really sure when I'm ovulating. Best of luck for you too! X

Thank you I'm thinking tracking my cycles is a good place to start and take it from there

As you are just starting, I’d say please don’t make it something complicated.
Tracking your periods is good
But apart from that, just ENJOY HAVING SEX. Seriously, just enjoy it, make it fun. Try to make space for it 2~3 time sin the week and then that’s it.

It’s normal to take 6 months or 1 year to get pregnant. And sometimes it happens just after one cycle. Let ut happen whatever way it will :)

I'm hoping to keep it simple and enjoy it as you say! Our average is currently about once a week so just wanting to track to know which weeks to pick up the pace haha!

When I was starting I found it helpful to just read through some of these threads and do a lot of googling! And then started tracking cycles etc to figure out when I ovulate. I would say join one of the TTC threads and you will pick up loads of tips from people. And google any terms you're not familiar with or just ask - found it all a bit overwhelming at first but soon got my head around it. Good luck 🤞🏻

Thanks so much, I've been wanting to join one of the threads but feel as though I'm butting in to a conversation! I must admit I've been doing a lot of googling this week too

Totally get that feeling but don't worry! We are all in the same boat. My google searches recently have been unhinged 😂

Hi Op! Smile
This is my first month trying, but I have read through so many posts on mums net over the past year and it's taught me pretty much everything I know.
It's so worth reading through the posts and utilising google, we have been tracking my cycle and using ovulation tests, and trying to have sex every day around ovulation! Good luck and I hope it all works out for you and you get your baby soon x

Hello! I had no idea that ovulation tests were so useful before this so definitely going to get some of those. Thank you, it's an exciting time and I wish you the best of luck too! X

Hi OP.
It depends if you want to start with tracking your cycles and using ovulation sticks straight away. It can get a bit overwhelming so I would recommend just relaxing with it at first and having sex every 2-3 days if possible.
If you have regular cycles then you can usually tell when you are near ovulation by your cervical mucus, if it has the consistency of egg whites. This usually happens around day 14(ish) if you have a regular 28 day cycle and it’s around this time that you are most fertile.
I’d just relax with it all at first and enjoy the journey. You can always look at ovulation sticks and temperature charting in a few months if not pregnant before then.
I can also recommend the Flo app.
Good luck!
