Spotting before period

BritInNZ · 25/01/2022 22:26

Hi everyone

Has anyone else experienced spotting quite early before their period?

I never used to have this but for my last 3 cycles (my COVID vaccine was 4 cycles ago) I have been spotting for 4/5 days before my period arrives.

We've been TTC for a year (classes as unexplained infertility) and this is just adding yet another worry as to why it's not working.

I usually have a 29 day cycle and today is day 25 and I've just been to the bathroom and had loads of spotting. Feeling pretty gutted and not sure what to do.

Will book in to see GP once this AF is out the way but just have no idea what it could be.

@emsie12345 let me know how it goes 🤞🏼 Not too long to wait! I have the ovulation support ones I didn’t know you could take the fertility ones alongside it? Is that what’s been helping? I’ve honestly had every blood test and scan going! It sounds bad but I’m regretting the vaccine now. It was such a tough decision anyway ontop of TTC after loss but I can’t change it. Xx

emsie12345 · 31/03/2022 20:06

Yep it's recommended to take them together. I think it's helping yes. I wouldn't think too much about the vaccine although I know it's not easy. From the bits I've been googling it seems spotting is an issue with low progesterone. My GP says mine is fine on the 21 day blood test but I've read that you can get more accurate results if you test on different cycle days. I asked and they said no it makes no difference. I'm suspicious because all my symptoms point to low progesterone. I'm currently in 2ww and doing an early test on Thursday. I find it hard not knowing too. Sending luck and baby vibes to you

Loz2467 · 31/03/2022 20:44

@emsie12345 Ah that you for that. I’ll order the others. I spend a small fortune on supplements and acupuncture etc 🙈 I felt like forgetting it all at one point but it’s so hard!

Yeah I completely agree everything with me was pointing to low progesterone too. Even a couple of night sweats 🙈 but I had it tested last august and it was 61 and then Dec it was 37 which is meant to all indicate all good. So confusing isn’t it! Fingers crossed for you this cycle xx

emsie12345 · 31/03/2022 21:00

God I know it gets expensive! It's one of those things that's always at the back of my mind. I didn't have a clue about all this when I was TTC my with my first and second DCs. It just happened! I think if we don't conceive again this year we are going to have to accept its not to be. We are blessed to have a little girl and a little boy who are perfect in every way. I'll keep you updated and best of luck to you and your family for a little one soon.

Loz2467 · 31/03/2022 22:42

@emsie12345 I was the exact same! I didn’t barely try and now this for the last 12 months! It’s so disheartening each time it doesn’t happen :( I have my little boy who is 3 in the summer and we lost our little girl when I was 17 weeks pregnant last February. I’m still grieving a lot but I don’t feel that’s the reason for not getting pregnant. I just can’t understand why. I literally can’t think of anymore tests to have done apart from surgery now. Good luck to you too! Keep me posted on anything!

emsie12345 · 31/03/2022 23:33

I will do. Sorry to hear of your loss, it is just so devastating. I miscarried in January last year at 10 weeks. It just feels like I've been in limbo since then. There's so many positive stories of successful pregnancies after misscarriage I feel like I'm missing something huge!

BritInNZ · 01/04/2022 05:33

Hi ladies, if it helps my nutritionist put me on magnesium in the evening to help manage my progesterone and I didn't have any spotting this month!

Loz2467 · 12/06/2022 18:05

Hi Ladies, is there any updates from anyone? I’m still suffering with the spotting for 5-7 days before my period so usually around 7 dpo still. I even had clomid this cycle and have still had it. Feeling disappointed as last month I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy done privately and he said it will sort the spotting and rejuvenate the uterine lining. Anyway low and behold on Friday at 7dpo I start my usually brown spotting again. Literally feeling so deflated and I don’t even know what else I can do to look into this.
I know it’s definitely been since my covid vaccine months last year. I’m thinking of seeing a naturopath but I’m just exhausted of trying to find answers.

BritInNZ · 12/06/2022 21:41

@Loz2467 sorry I don't have any advice, but my spotting also started after the COVID vaccine. My nutritionist said she's hearing it heaps, but until there's scientific research there's not much she can do. Mine has shortened somewhat - I still spot beforehand but for maybe a day or two, instead of 4/5 days. The only thing that helped was taking magnesium in the evening, this meant I didn't spot at all the first month and reduced the amount of spotting days for the following months. Might be worth giving it a shot?

@BritInNZ thank you so much that’s helpful. I was thinking about speaking to a naturopath? I just wasn’t sure. The amount of hundreds I have spent on reflexology, acupuncture etc. i just don’t know if to keep thinking it’s a fertility issue and keep paying to try and get answers or even go to IVF. Or is it just since my vaccine and it isn’t affecting my fertility. It just seems strange how I’ve got pregnant easily before to completely nothing along with brown spotting from 7dpo. I do bbt charting and my temps are still high throughout the spotting which doesn’t seem to indicate and issue with progesterone but I just don’t know. I’ve had every blood test going and even the camera .

Loz2467 · 23/06/2022 19:26

@Whatinthename20 did you have any progress or changes with your spotting? Nearly 12 months since my first vaccine and I’m still spotting from 7/8 dpo. I’ve ruled so many things out now progesterone is the last thing to try!

Loz2467 · 24/09/2022 11:12

@Whatinthename20 How are you getting on? My Hyterscopy didn’t flag inflammation or polyps. So I was given clomid to try and give me a stronger ovulation however I still started spotting at 7dpo. So the next cycle I tried cyclogest progesterone 2 days after ovulation and that’s stopped the spotting for the last 3 months however no pregnancy.

im so worried because it’s been since the month of the Covid vaccine :( xx

Loz2467 · 24/09/2022 11:14

@emsie12345 how did you get on with the spotting? My story is above. It’s still happening :( however progesterone supposrories are controlling it after ovulation xx

sdegenio222 · 06/10/2022 21:23

I've dealt with the same thing and my doctor said it was normal. If you need reassurance I would try going to this site babyvillage.org/ answered my medical questions promptly while I couldn't see my GP!

Loz2467 · 07/10/2022 12:26

@sdegenio222 Thank you. Was you TTC too and the brown spotting didn’t stop you from conceiving?

Babydust2024123 · 01/05/2024 22:37

Hey sorry I know this is an old thread but how has everyone gotten on? Currently same issue with progesterone and due to start IVF

newhere2024 · 04/09/2024 23:43

Hi there, I know this is an old thread I just wondered if anyone had managed to get to the bottom of this. Currently been ttc 12 months, got pregnant first time trying but sadly ended in an early miscarriage. Been having the spotting ever since we started ttc. Any insights or things that helped would so gratefully received. ❤️

Taviton · 06/09/2024 06:52

I'm also interested in any updates please. I have spotting but my progesterone was normal and scan was normal. Can't help but feel the spotting is why I'm not getting pregnant.

BritInNZ · 09/09/2024 00:59

Sorry have only just seen peoples comments. I didn't end up managing to conceive without help, and used letrozole in the end as I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility.

Since my period returned after having my son I still have some spotting, sometimes for a couple of days, sometimes up to 4 days before my period officially arrives. It's very frustrating!

I haven't found anything fixed it I'm afraid. I fell pregnant the first month taking letrozole and obviously didn't spot that month because I was already pregnant, but I've read that spotting is linked to low progesterone and letrozole helps with progesterone, so might be linked?

Thanks so much for responding. This is all really helpful.

newhere2024 · 10/09/2024 13:03

And congratulations on the birth of you Son ❤

Loz2467 · 10/09/2024 18:38

@newhere2024 sorry your going through this too. After 3.5 years TTC and having the spotting for the last 3.5 years I’ve read ALOT. For some people it doesn’t seem to affect them TTC and have been successful. Like above letrozole can boost your ovulation and increase your progesterone so worth a try. I tried it for 6 months but no luck so went to IVF and just had my third miscarriage but I do have adenomyosis unfortunately. I got my spotting the month of my covid vaccine and now I’ve got immune issues so they think mine was an immune response to the vaccine and I’ve met others with the same. A main cause is low progesteone which can be changed by medications or it can sometimes be adeno or endo causing the low progesterone. Wishing you luck. Xx

Thanks so much for getting back to me and I’m so sorry about your losses.

I’ve been prescribed Cyclogest to take 2 days after LH surge which does stop the bleeding but sadly still no pregnancy. I’m on the waiting list for a hysteroscopy currently. None of the doctors we’ve seen have mentioned endometriosis or adenomyosis but perhaps it’s something to ask about at our next appt.

It sounds like you’ve had a really hard time and I’m really sorry for what you’ve been through. I’m sending much compassion to you and wishing you all the best. x

Twinsmum2021 · 17/09/2024 13:34

I know it's an old post but on the off chance it helps anyone, I was spotting from about day 21 of my cycle. Went to the GP, ended up getting a private ultra sound and hysterectomy to check for polyps. Was advised it was my progesterone hormone levels dropping too soo , and the only thing I could do was take the pill if I didn't want the spotting.
After lots of googling and doing my own research I found the one thing that helps massively is having organic milk. On a cycle when I only have organic milk I might get 2 days of spotting, if I have normal milk I get at least 7 days.
