Help! I have 3 months in which to conceive...

no pressure there then

I am ttc DC2, and am on heparin injections to prevent DVT. The doc says I can only be on it for 1yr max, having used it through my previous pg. This gives me 3 months in which to conceive.

I had no probs conceiving with DD1, but I had no deadline then

Can any of you experts give me some quick advice about my cycle? Don't have time to read books or learn how to chart stuff.

Cycle is 30days every time. My last period began on 11th Dec. Soooo, based on that, when would I be ovulating?

Have had sex every day, just to be on the safe side but I don't think I can keep up this pace for another two months, so any advice/good luck very gratefully received.

(Am a regular who has namechanged, so that nobody I know in RL finds out I'm ttc and heaps on more pressure!)

DOn't do it every day - if you do it every other day it gives his diddymen chance to regroup!
Keep an eye out for changes in your mucus when it is more stringy it is a sign of ovulation.
Relax - enjoy the sex - stress is one of the greatest contributors of problems.
rough guestimate - ovulation around say 14-16 so NOW NOW NOW if day 1 of 30 was the 11th Dec,

Good luck! Enjoy!!!

what jingleyjen says. Worked for me!

cheeseontoast · 28/12/2007 21:23

oh yikes, have I been wearing out his diddymen

Have been keeping an eye on the mucus (not literally you understand!) but it never seems to change consistency at all.

So now's the time - will be going for it!!

Thanks for the advice/good luck

Learning to chart isn't difficult honest.

What JinglyJen says is true - every other day is the best bet but can be stressful and / or sore .

I had 'problems' conceiving DC3 until I started taking my temperature every morning. As soon as I did that, I realised my other signs were not accurate and that I was ovulating much later than I 'should' have been for my cycle length. Next month BFP .

I used free charting online and bought a fertility thermometer from boots - well worth it. If you wanted the 'how to chart' web lessons I could email them to you - they email them every week or so I think otherwise but I kept them all - just in case.

Why the deadline? No-one ever gave me one.

cece · 28/12/2007 21:27

The month we concieved DD we did it every day

but it was tiring

cheeseontoast · 28/12/2007 21:33

coby - you have to take your temp whilst still lying in bed in the morning though don't you? How did you mangage this with 2 DCs already? I only ever wake up due to a loud wail in the next bedroom

yomella - the heparin gives you osteoporosis, worse the longer you use it. I have already been using it for 8 months of my previous pg. Having had a DVT earlier this year, the dose I'm using now is huuuge.

cheeseontoast - pmsl - as long as you take your temp the moment you wake up and before getting out of bed it's fine.

If you are up and down all night it can affect it though - you need to take the temp after 4 hours solid sleep ideally. With my DD2 this wasn't always possible as she NEVER sleeps . The charting method I used was fab at dealing with this though as it will anaylse each temp and if it thinks one is a little 'strange' and was taken outside the normal parameters it will disregard it.

I did a fertility diet. Didn't use it for the first 7 rounds of fertility treatment; no pregnancy. Did use it for the 8th and I conceived. So it could be coincidence, but it's a healthy diet, so no harm done anyway.
It's basically a mix of antioxidants, vitamins and healthy fats. I ate brazil nuts for the selenium, smoothies for the vitamins, drank green tea for the antioxidants, and had oily fish and flax seeds for the fats. I also cut out coffee and drank almost no alcohol, walked a lot for moderate exercise and tried to sleep well (easier with a first child I know!).
Good luck! And don't forget to take your folic acid.

You can get ovulation test strips from Wilks, about 2.99 for 5. They tell you when you're roughly fertile.

cheeseontoast I'd get another opinion re the heparin if I was you - I've alreday been on clexane/enoxoparin (lmw heparin) for well over a year (2 pregnancies/preconception) and neither my obstetrician nor haematologist have any problem with me taking it again in as many pregnancies as I achieve. The haematologist says the loss of bone density due to clexane taken during a pregnancy is the same as the loss during one year of breastfeeding.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 29/12/2007 17:37

Um, a basic point in case you haven't thought of it - don't get out of bed straight after sex. Hold a wodge of tissues in place and hug your knees for a bit but try not to get up until you really need a wee LOL. Make DH get up and see to wailing children in the meantime. Gravity yeah? Good luck.

cheeseontoast · 30/12/2007 13:38

notmyrtle - what dose are you on, if you don't mind me asking?

I was on 20iu per day of Clexane through my previous pg, but am now on 20,000iu of Tinzaparin. A thousand times more seems an awful lot

Thanks for the top tips everyone, fingers crossed for a BFP Happy New Year
