Private fertility check in Glasgow

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about booking an ultrasound and AMH test as we have been TTC for a while now with no luck. I'm having problems getting a response from private clinics - can anyone recommend one in Glasgow? Are they all shut because if covid?

Thanks in advance xx

Have you tried GCRM? They get a good name.

Emailed them this morning so will see if they come back to me.

Been trying the private clinic at the royal infirmary but they aren't picking up phones or responding to email.

Thank you!

All open as far as I know. We went with GCRM because like you have found, the GRI just never replied. GCRM so far have been quick, upfront about pricing, polite and friendly. Have had their assessment package and now also having a hycosy there (today in fact!)

IDontLikeMondays88 · 19/01/2022 10:58

I think apart from the GRI it really is only the GGRM that does it now in Glasgow so not much choice

TheDaydreamBelievers · 19/01/2022 11:12

Yes, I agree with @IDontLikeMondays88 I think they are the only 2! GCRM have a v v short wait list. I think I waited a month to start assessments. If you go for intervention it's a 2 month wait for the nurse clinic appt and I think 6 months wait for IVF as the pandemic paused it a bit at the start.

Maf2122 · 19/01/2022 11:27

Thanks everyone,

I ended up just giving them a call and am going for a scan, AMH and sperm check in a couple of weeks. They were great and it feels good to be taking a bit of control.

We thought we might just go for a check up initially as we have been trying for just 9 months but there's a 6 month wait after that so might as well get the ball rolling and if it happens in the interim then great.

I've not gone to my GP at all, is that a bit mad? I just don't have much confidence in them and I've got a friend who has waited all in all about 3 years through the NHS...

@Maf2122 if you can afford it, then no it's not mad. The only thing GP offered that private didn't is bloods to check you are ovulating. But if you have normal length cycles you likely are, whereas I have mental long cycles.

I am waiting for nhs treatment and yes it takes forever

Maf2122 · 19/01/2022 11:59

@TheDaydreamBelievers thank you that's good to know.

Hope it's not too much longer for you xx

What sort of age are you ie would you be eligible for NHS funded fertility treatment?
Even if you wouldn’t be, you should consider a doctors appointment anyway - as even if if you wouldn’t get NHS funded IVF they may be able to help with initial steps.
Before I had my little boy my doctor was able to help me a bit - bloods done, pelvic exam, vaginal ultrasound and swabs done (turns out I had BV which doesnt help when trying conceive so I was then treated for the BV). A lot might depend on the GP you see but maybe worth a shot. This was also pre covid.
Also in certain circumstances clomid might help which a GP can prescribe.
I therefore think you should do the initial appointment with the private clinic but also see what your GP can help with.
Also if you are eligible for IVF on the NHS you could go on the waiting list for that while still having private treatment so it might give extra shots at IVF as I have read that really you need to be prepared to do at least 3 rounds of IVF to have a good chance of success.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 19/01/2022 13:43

Just to add to @IDontLikeMondays88 - some NHS trusts will take away your NHS allowance of IVF if you have it privately. In my trust if you have any private rounds they come out of your NHS allowance eg if you had one privately you are now only eligible for 2 through nhs, not 3

Maf2122 · 21/01/2022 09:10

@IDontLikeMondays88 im 33 so would be eligible. I think I'm put off bc I have a friend who is going through the NHS and it has been really awful for her. I get regular checks for my under-active thyroid and they never fill me with confidence (I've got a friend who is an endocrine consultant and if it wasn't for her keeping them right god knows what state I'd be in).

That being said I think it's good advice to still go on the waiting list if possible so I will move that forward. Smile

Hopefully the private scan can give me more information that might help with the GP.

Thanks ladies 🥰 x x

Hi @Maf2122 I'm just wondering how you got on with GCRM?

busybee345 · 30/05/2022 12:06

Hello @RMS0209
(I had to change my name)

GRMC were good. I found them helpful and pretty efficient but sometimes their front of house communication was a bit hit and miss. after our tests we found out that we have MFI - 0% morphology.

Because of our diagnosis our GP made an immediate NHS referral but we have also decided to go private at GRFC in the meantime. Our consultant confirmed that private rounds don't exclude your NHS eligibility here so we are going to try a private round while we wait for the NHS. The NHS correspondence is pretty woeful. The contact numbers on the letters are out of date which has been very frustrating trying to get to the right person. I have still no idea what the process is and how long the NHS will take.

GRFC have been good. They are slightly cheaper than GRMC and are at the other side of the city for us which is more convenient. Have a nurses appointment on Wednesday so hoping I won't be too long to start treatment after that.

How are you getting on?

xx

RMS0209 · 30/05/2022 13:25

Hi! @busybee345
Thank you so much for replying to me.

Ah, see when I first called to chase my self referral I got a guy that wasn't very helpful, but then I've had a lovely lady call me since to book me in for my tests.
So sorry to hear about your MFI -0% morphology.
But really glad your GP made an immediate referral.

Sending you lots of luck for your private.
I've heard the NHS process is very slow.
I have been bickering with my DR for a few months now to get a progesterone blood test, but he has now agreed so I will get that hopefully next week (I seem to have "peaked" OPK wise over the weekend.

I see, I'm actually 3hrs away from Glasgow (up north) so I am going to get the train down.
I actually have my scans and blood tests on Thursday - slightly nervous but excited to get the ball rolling.
I'd love to be kept up to date with how you get on? Xx

busybee345 · 30/05/2022 15:59

Very glad to hear you are getting your tests. As much as we were pretty heartbroken with the results, without question it has moved things along relatively quickly for us as my GP use the report and didn't delay at all.

As it happens, I have just had a call with the NHS and now my private and NHS treatments are basically running simultaneously, so it might be that I can cancel the private for now. This was never our intention as the information we looked at on the NHS website said that it might be a wait of about 11 months. I won't complain though.

Happy to keep you up to date, and likewise with you. Hope you have a nice train ride down :)

RMS0209 · 02/06/2022 18:14

Hi @busybee345

How are you? How did your app go on Wednesday?

I have just had my scans and bloods, I had a lovely nurse. I was running 5 minutes late but got a helpful lady on the phone too so felt miles better for it.
Feel a bit more relaxed... even managed to pop into a few shops before getting the train back home (which I'm sitting on now!) been a long day, can't wait until bedtime x

busybee345 · 03/06/2022 12:34

Hi @RMS0209

Very glad your apt went well and sounds like you had a nice day! When will you get the results? Did your partner do a SA?

My apt was fine. Due to start treatment on the date of my next period so long as I can get the second MMR vaccine which has been a bit of a hassle!

x

RMS0209 · 05/06/2022 09:03

Hi @busybee345

It was, definitely took my mind off it a little.
My partners SA isn't until the 16th, so backdown we will go 🙂will drive this time as it's an evening app.

That's great, what treatment are you going with? Do you need 2 MMR vaccines? I think I may only have one.. I will phone and ask the doctor surgery tomorrow. Im really happy you have things happening x

RMS0209 · 07/07/2022 22:18

How are you getting on @busybee345 x

busybee345 · 08/07/2022 08:17

Hi @RMS0209

nice to hear from you 😊 we hit a bump in the road: I’ve been referred to colposcopy following a smear that the clinic wanted me to have as it was due in august. Might cause a bit of a delay but have an apt next week so we’ll see.

what about you? X

RMS0209 · 10/07/2022 13:17

Hi! @busybee345 😄

Oh no, sorry to hear about the delay... hopefully it's a quick app and the ball is rolling for you again.

I have my nurse planning appointment on Friday, the ball is rolling - super quick.
I phoned my GP to get my smear and I couldn't get my next one until 25th Aug! But I just have a disclaimer to sign at the clinic to say I'm waiting on results so that's no problem.

It's looking good for both of us, keeping everything crossed x
Now to make the next week fly... while enjoying this lovely Scottish weather for once x
