Ttc with hyperthyroid/graves 😞

Hi everyone, is there anyone with an overactive thyroid that's ttc? I have Graves' disease and my thyroids just gone overactive again after being normal for a few years. We're over one year ttc now with 2 losses so far, one miscarriage and one tfmr.

I've been advised by my doctor to avoid ttc until my levels are normal again, is this the norm, it's really upsetting thinking about putting ttc on hold 😞

Has anyone got any success stories to make me feel better? Is it worth paying private for some extra fertility tests?

For reference my recent bloods are as follows

TSH

Hi, I have Graves too. Your T4 is much too high and your TSH is too low. I can't comment on the antibody test as I don't know what the reference range is.

You really shouldn't TTC with your levels in this range - they need to be within range and as stable as possible otherwise it may lead to problems with a pregnancy which nobody would want for you.

Get your endocrinologist to tweak your meds and tell them you're TTC. They will be able to give you more advice than I can on that front but will also know that time is of the essence to you. You really need to get them under control before resuming TTC and I think for most people, six to eight weeks should be round about enough to bring those levels to within range on the right dose of meds.

I'm not medically trained but have had a fair whack of experience with TTC having an overactive thyroid.

Good luck!

I think it's more that you'll have problems conceiving/retaining a pregnancy while your levels are unstable, which would be traumatic.

You absolutely need to get your thyroid balanced before ttc, you’re unlikely to get pregnant as is, and if you do, very likely to lose it.

I know that’s disappointing, but it shouldn’t take too long, a couple of months, hopefully.

Thanks for your input @Squiff70 @TulipsGarden and @Totallydefeated

Yes I'm aware that my levels are high at the moment and have been put on medication starting today, really frustrating as haven't had to be medicated for nearly 2 years and my levels were normal at the end of November. Not sure what's suddenly set them off.

We have already tried this month before finding out blood results so will see what that brings, am 8dpo today. Unfortunately I'm all too familiar with problems in pregnancy although this was not related to thyroid previously, not sure how many more times I can go through it.
