Hydrosalpinx

Anyone have any experience with blocked Fallopian tube? I've just found out have hydrosalpinx on left tube. Still early days with testing but reading online it's quite overwhelming!

@ksc912 I'm sorry, I know getting news like this can be confusing and upsetting, especially if you've not really had it explained to you what it means and what they can do to help and you end up on Google
How has the hydrosalpinx been diagnosed? I also have a blocked tube which was picked up by a HyCoSy- they've told me it doesn't look like there is a hydrosalpinx, but the only way to know for sure would be a hysteroscopy
I understand that if there is a hydrosalpinx then potentially fluid can leak into the uterus and reduce the chance of an embryo implanting.
There are some women on the infertility forum who had the tube removed and then successfully conceived, although in some cases via ivf. If you post on there someone may be able to offer first-hand experience

I know when I found out about my blocked tube I was hoping it could be unblocked and the idea of having a tube removed sounded terrifying, but it seems the chances of conceiving with one tube are pretty good if that one is working fine and there are no other issues

Hi @ksc912
I’m having surgery in 5 days to treat a hydrosalpinx in my left tube. The right tube seems to be fine.
I was so upset when I found out in November but now I’m looking forward to getting the surgery over with and moving forward.

ArtfulScreamer · 24/01/2022 13:48

I had a right hydrosalpinx diagnosed as part of various tests into our infertility. We fell into the unexplained category and were referred for IVF but before they'd commence treatment they wanted the hydrosalpinx removed as the fluid can be toxic and hinder implantation. I had the tube removed and went on to have successful IVF and then 18 months after my DD was born DS was a spontaneous conception from my left ovary via my left tube.
I'll never know why I never had a sniff of a BFP in the 5 years before IVF or why after IVF my body was capable of a spontaneous conception but having my hydrosalpinx removed certainly didn't make things worse for me.

@ksc912 hi! I am in the same boat, found out in September I have hydrosalphinx in one tube after 4 months of clomid not working (and PCO) so I have been on the waitlist for surgery ever since.

Finally got a date in 2 weeks, however the surgeon is quite non commital about whether I should have the tube out or just have a poke around- I am quite reluctant to have a look around and then wait another few months to have it removed so would prefer it in one go.

I have done a lot of reading in the last few months and it seems there is a lot of options Smile

s154 · 07/02/2022 22:42

@birdbybird I hope the surgery went well! Did your consultant recommend removing the affected tube? How is your recovery?

birdbybird · 08/02/2022 00:17

@s154 the surgery was fine. I was so nervous before but the feeling of waking up and knowing its behind you is great.
I went private for my operation and I'd discussed and agreed with the gynaecologist that she would first have a look and see if it seemed damaged and if so, she would remove it if she could and if not, she would clip it so that it didn't interfere with conception.
In my case, during the operation she found my fallopian tube was stuck and wasn't functioning, I had an emergency c-section 2 years ago during which I bled from the left side and she thinks that might have caused it as the dodgy fallopian tube is on the left. Anyway, after the surgery she said to me she thought the surgery had been worth doing... A week later I'm pretty much back to normal and waiting for my period and a new cycle!

s154 · 08/02/2022 08:12

@birdbybird thank you for the update, very useful. Is your consultant recommending you try clomid or any drugs to help you ovulate more given only 1 tube, or IVF?

How long are you having off work? I have been given a guide of a few weeks?

birdbybird · 08/02/2022 15:47

@s154 I was ovulating each month until the operation so if I take clomid, how does that improve my chances, do you know? Were you ovulating each month before starting clomid? I have kind of given up on ivf as a couple of years ago blood tests showed a high fsh level. So I think for me it’s a spontaneous pregnancy or nothing. But I’ll look into clomid.

I work from home and I had the operation on Saturday and didn’t take Monday off. In hindsight I could have taken Monday off. I’ve been told no heavy lifting for a few days.

s154 · 08/02/2022 18:55

@birdbybird I have PCOS so was on clomid to help me ovulate, but I think it makes you ovulate more so increases your chances even if only 1 tube?

No time off work sounds quick, I am expecting a few weeks off based on what my consultant said!

ksc912 · 28/02/2022 10:59

Hi thanks for these messages I've not logged on for ages as waiting for next tests. However my period was late so I've done a test and it's positive. Now very anxious that we will have another miscarriage due to the hydrosalpinx. We were told it was suspected but needed a hycosy to confirm.

Can you recommend where you went private for the procedure as I’ve just been diagnosed with hydrosalpinx and am mid IVF cycle awaiting FET. It’s my 3rd cycle and nothing picked up before even with HyCoSy so I guess it’s newly developed. I’m still a bit in shock as it came out of nowhere.
NHS wait list is so long I am looking into private but not seeing many options in my google searching-appreciate any guidance.

birdbybird · 29/04/2022 18:07

Hi @1980London I went to dr Diane Fleming privately. At New Victoria Hospital for my surgery.

Ejhdah18 · 03/02/2023 17:17

Does anyone have any experience with hydrosalpinx and pregnancy? Been hospital today I'm 8 weeks babies where it should be and strong heart beat, but they said my left tube had liquid inside and was blocked. Now I'm worrying like mad thinking something will happen to my baby. There literally is hardly anything online regarding this.

Thanks

@ksc912 I would wait until your hycosy. The worry and stress your likely to cause yourself thinking about this is just as much a risk for miscarriage.
I was told my right tube was very swollen on trans ultrasound and it was filled with fluid (apparently a healthy tube won't show on a scan unless it's severely swollen) I was immediately booked in for a laracopsy to remove my tube since the advice was the fluid is toxic to an embryo .. he booked me in for surgery and during the wait.. fast forward 1 month to my hsg test in Nov 22 ( similar to hycosy but with xray image) it came back my tubes were normal, absolutely no fluid. I conceived following month but lost it. No idea where this so called fluid went

I went through mental hell for over a month thinking I was going to have my tube removed.
From what I've read there's no option to fix a hydrophinx other than surgery but I looked up supplements that might help. I've obviously absolutely no backed up medical evidence they helped but they probably did no harm since my next test was clear and I also miracleously ovulated the following cycle too, first time I've ever ovulated. ( I have pcos) Try not to worry yourself too much until you've had your hycosy as you don't know for certain yet

Ejhdah18 · 04/02/2023 13:50

The hospital just told me they are going to see if it's progressed at my 12 week scan. Does that seem normal. I spoke to my midwife this morning and she seemed clueless to it all. Just told me to not worry and see what happens at next scan.

Can I asked what supplements you took? A scan showed a possible cyst however one Dr said it could be something to do with the tube but was all a bit unclear. I've been trying to eat and drink anti inflammatory foods/teas before having another scan

MK85 · 05/02/2023 00:02

@ros i took tumeric, the ones I took I bought on amazon , I think around £4 Nutritrust ( white packet with orange) it has the black pepper that they say you should take with tumeric and has ginger aswell ( quite large to swallow tho ) I also took MSM by vitality , it has c and acerola in it aswell . also from amazon. I did a bit of researching around the Internet to ensure they are legitimate brands before trusting them. I think i might have been taking apple cider vinegar aswell I can't remember. I also did pelvic massage on few occasions with fushi castor oil then a hot water bottle. Alot of people swear by the castor oil packs 🤷‍♂️ I've no idea if any of those can contribute to reducing fluid but after that news i was desperate to try anything that might help and somehow it seemed to leave my right fallopian tube. There are herbs touted to help with fallopian tube blockages but i didnt want to try herbs that might mess up my hormones in the process since i have pcos. Medical science can argue with me all they want but i will say I definitely think they clearly help with some sort of immflamation in my pelvic area in general as my chronic pelvic pain that i had on daily basis has reduced massively
