Sorry to hear you are in this position 💔 my husband and I have been trying for 2 Years now and it's so tough. Once we reached 1 year, I was able to get some blood tests done through the NHS to check my hormones and cycle were working correctly. As you haven't got a regular cycle at the moment, getting these tests done could help you work out why and maybe find a solution! 🤞 So definitely give your GP a call if you haven't already. Hope you get your BFP and healthy happy baby very soon!

@MaisieRed hi! What do you mean by 'normal cycle'? Are you tracking ovulation? I completely emphasise as I am on cycle 9 of trying and it is gruelling to 'fail' every month. X

@FlyOnTheWall89

My cycles have been lasting between 40-60 days i Am tracking my ovulation predictions but when I take ovulation tests I never get a positive test back.
Many thanks for you reply!

@Nora11 thank you for your advice. I will try and book an appointment soon. And hopefully I will find out why it's not working at the moment.
I hope the same for you both too!
Such a difficult thing to go through.

@MaisieRed okay - yes, you'd have to take them almost every single day... and you've have to DTD a lot if you can't pinpoint ovulation. I totally understand - super frustrating.

Speak to the doctors and get a fertility screening set of blood tests. Don't take no for an answer. Some doctors can be helpful but some very much are not. TTC is enormously emotionally and mentally draining. You need to get some answers. It may be something really simple that you can do to get things back in order. Don't lose hope. Trawl mumsnet because so many people will have experienced what you're experiencing.

Definitely agree with going to the GP. I'm just about to do the same, though I have regular cycles. As I understand it, they tcan start you on Clomid to stimulate ovulation and help make your cycles more regular.

Booking the GP appt will make me feel like I've got a bit of control back in the situation, albeit temporarily! We've been TTC since Jan 2021.

I feel your pain @MaisieRed - coming up for 2 years here!

It's likely you have an underlying cause of cycle disruption like PCOS or similar. How long were your cycles before you were on hormonal contraceptives?

Ideally ask your GP to do:

  1. Hormone profile bloods on cycle day 3 and 21 (measuring LH, FSH, progesterone). These should show that you are not ovulating on normal time scale (which will be the case - it is not possible to have big long cycles and ovulate at normal timescales).
  2. an androgen profile with bloods to check nothing wrong with androgens impacting on cycles
  3. refer you to assisted conception when you have been trying for a year.

Also if you are overweight, they may ask you to lose weight. A 5%+ reduction in body weight has been shown to improve cycles.

@pizzaobsessed in some healthboard trusts, GPs can prescribe ovulation induction drugs but I just want to warn you that in the vast majority of areas they will need to refer you to assisted conception services for this to happen and GPs will not be able to offer you any treatment. I don't say this to be depressing, just to warn you!

Following.. I've had my implant out six months and haven't had AF yet

Thank you for correcting me. My cycles are within normal range so I probably won't need anything but you're right to flag for others reading this thread

Just a quick update I took an ovulation test today and I had a high result. Hopefully peak will be in a couple days!
