Hi,
Just looking for a bit of advice please. I'm 37, DH is 44. We've been ttc our second since August. DD (2 yo) was conceived on the first try.
We use OPKs, I do get positive results but my cycles vary from 24 - 30 days each month. We also use Preseed.
With DD I had a section delivery and they also found a fibroid. Don't know if either of these things might be causing a problem this time around.
Just wondering when we should be concerned/ seeking help?
Our GP is currently closed for everything apart from Covid jabs and priority patients so getting an appointment there is a no-go at present.
Was thinking about looking into investigations privately but have no idea about cost.
Or wait it out and hope we get some joy?
Any advice Mumsnetters?
Thank you

I think you're jumping the gun a bit prematurely.
I understand it must be frustrating as you got pregnant straight away with your first but 5/6 months TTC is not very long in the grand scheme of things and the GP won't start to investigate anything at this stage anyway. You could maybe ask for a scan to see if you have fibroids.
You know that you & your husband are fertile, it just sometimes takes a while. You were very lucky first time around.

I personally don’t think you are jumping the gun at all. 6 months of trying warrants referral if you are over 35 years. (NHS website staters that I think).

I’ve learnt from couples going through this; that having one child easily doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the same the next time around. Fertility changes.

In your shoes I would go for private investigations just to get the ball rolling.

You aren’t jumping the gun. Getting past 6 months at over 35, I’d be looking into private investigations same as @RisingSunn says.

Similar situation.

Desperate for a second but 18 months of trying and no luck.
A scan at 8 months trying said I had a fibroid - gp said it shouldn't stop me getting pregnant.

DH sperm tests are above average.

I'm on the waiting list for a fertility appointment (taking ages).

We got pregnant first try with our only dc.

I'd push forward rather than sit waiting.

I'm fairly sure almost all NHS trusts don't fund secondary infertility treatments, so it's worth going private if you can.

Private testing is about £600 all in but intervention pricey (medicated cycles approx 1k a go, IUI 2k a go, IVF 7k a go). However, as previous posters have said the nhs will not offer you fertility care so private is your only option really. Wishing you all the best
