Hi Just wondered if anyone had luck with non-ivf treatment over 45 years of age? Homeopathy? Chinese medicine/ acupuncture.? IUI, moisie? Acupuncture? I just want a non IVF doctor to understand if there is anything else going on and see me as a whole person.

Hi OP, I didn't want to read and run.

I am 41 and planning on TTC naturally, my gp was very supportive.

Thanks Cheryl - it would be good to hear more stories like that. Looking into homeopathy and please note I am a scientist and have seen some evidence it could work so wondered if anyone has had good experiences with this.

@Dreamergirlx I'd be interested in any research you have...im a lawyer...I like reasoned decisions based on empirical evidence lol.

I had my gp run basic bloods, my DH is having a vasectomy reversal in February. She was totally supportive of natural conception. I've had ppl recommended ivf "at my age" but, in my opinion, if its all working why go down that road.

Hi Cheryl I think there is still not clear evidence but here is one paper clinmedjournals.org/articles/rmi/reproductive-medicine-international-rmi-1-008.php?jid=rmi

Also this is an interesting paper from a prestigious institution that discusses how more research should be done, but that homeopathy is probably the most promising for infertility and safer compared to other conditions where more conventional treatments might be better.

And I forgot to post the link for the other paper - see here: medcraveonline.com/IJCAM/homeopathic-treatment-of-infertility-a-medical-and-bioethical-perspective.html

Sorry but natural conception over 45 is so minuscule the doctor probably wont be bothered sorry
It's just a bit late .

You might not be interested in adoption, but a (single) friend of mine in her late 40s recently adopted a baby. There are far more under twos in line for adoption than there used to be.

This is absolutely not the case. Why scaremonger?

Dreamergirlx · 18/12/2021 17:57

Thanks everyone for advice - yes I am aware I am older and not as easy. I have thought about adoption but my DH not really into that idea. Still worth considering best ways to do that though . However, I will still continue to try and explore all ways possible to conceive. Any advice for older women (that does not involve ivf) is welcome. 😊

That's just not true...OP obviously knows the odds...its in no way impossible. My mum had children well into her 40s

I'm sorry @Dreamergirlx but neither of those studies show homeopathy helps with infertility. The first study was done by a college for homeopathy and showed no decent research methods at all. The second study showed that homeopaths do not record their results accurately or publish them therefore no results can be shown. For years there has been a prize of a million $ for whoever can produce actual evidence of homeopathy working but so far no one has been able to.
I had a baby at the age of 44, conceived naturally so not all nope is lost but I'm afraid I don't believe homeopathy is the way.

Dreamergirlx · 19/12/2021 16:35

Yes I agree there is still no clear evidence according to the current standards, but the problem is it is difficult to do clinical trials with these type of treatments as the author states. I conduct research in the area of integrative medicine and see similar issues with other types of holistic treatments. This does not mean it does not work.

It appears that homeopathic treatments are not unsafe for fertility treatment, where it might be problematic for other conditions that have more conventional treatments available that at this point should not be ignored for safety reasons ( infections, cancer etc.). I don’t mind being a Guinea pig and trying this out if there are no ill effects and there might be a chance. I have tried some treatment briefly and it seemed to impact my cycle so willing to give it a try, but of course happy to hear of any other natural or non-ivf treatments as well! I appreciate all the thoughts and suggestions!
