When am I fertile?

My periods are irregular. I had unprotected sex 5 days before my cervical mucus changed. I’m very new to learning about ovulation and ttc. Is there a chance I could be pregnant? Are you most fertile the day your cervical mucus changes or a few days before? Can you get pregnant at any time of the month (apart from straight after your period)? Thanks in advance.

You can only get pregnant in the 4-5 days in the run up to and including ovulation day.

Cervical mucus changes during those days, when it goes egg white and stretchy it usually means you will ovulate in the next couple of days so it's important to have sex then.

Your period tends to come around 2 weeks after ovulation so that should give you a hint as to how late in your cycle you tend to ovulate.

However - all these signs can happen without ovulation taking place. Do you suspect PCOS, is that why your cycles are irregular? How long/irregular are they?

Your best bet to confirm you actually ovulate is to track your temperature. If you find that you don't ovulate you can get help from the NHS then.

I can recommend Ovusense if you’re TTC and have irregular cycles. The day I ovulate can vary month-by-month but using Ovusense along with OPK’s and tracking CM has given me a much better handle on my cycles.

There’s a chance you could be pregnant but it really is a stab in the dark if you’re not using BBT and/or OPK’s to track ovulation. Also even if the timing is perfect there’s only a 25-30% chance that you will conceive each cycle.

Hope that helps Flowers

What is BBT and OPK? I might have a look into Ovusense.

It’s crazy how small the window is and how some women fall pregnant without meaning to! I tend to have a period every other month.
