Hi,

Very new to this! Never wanted kids before - have now been taken over by hormonal, broody alien who wants a baby NOW!!!

Am seriously overweight - so any advice on larger ladies getting and staying pregnant would be really helpful...

Also, had mirena removed 11th November - anyone with experience of getting pg after coil? How long did it take etc?

Am I mad to want this NOW?

This site is fab!

I've only ever been several stone overweight and lost it all using the Paul Mckenna weight loss system. However I do know for a fact that the greatest thing you can do to aid your fertility is both you AND your partner quit drinking, start eating more healthily and attempt to get a bit of exercise - walking is good.

I found Zita West's Guide to getting pregnant really helpful actually in understanding what fertility is affected by if you are in the mood for a read.

Incidentally we were told we would only get pregnant by IVF because of PCOS and I have one DD (14 months) and am preg with number 2 having only had sex twice - so try not to get all het up with accepted wisdom on these things.

Generally though lots of sex does help!

Good luck Purplegryffon.
My loss did do one good thing for me though, I have lost 4.5 stone so far since the miscarriage. It made me realise I really did need to do something about my weight.
I now also realise that the 2 children I have already are all I need at the moment to.

Hello! I do lymph drainage and treat a lot of people wanting to lose weight. I would recommend ensuring your bowels are working well to speed up weight loss. You should aim for 3 movements a day. Don't take laxatives though! Take a good quality flax oil to help lubricate bowel and increase fat burning. Also kelp supplements will help detox and speed weight loss. Pure Plan detox drink is very effective from health food shops. Also cut out bread and pasta. Don't mix protein with complex carbs and have complex carbs early in day so not for evening meal.
Lecithin granules will help metabolise fats in food and break down fat in liver again from health food shops.
Good luck! x

Manuka - brilliant advice - thank you. Will certainly take all of that onboard...

Whoops - cogratulations on your weight loss success - and hope all works out for you in the future...

Loosing weight is the answer. My friends sister was obese and tried everything to get pg except loose a few stone. After 4 attempts at ivf which all failed she adopted a lo. Anyway I think she was finally happy and her self esteem improved and eventually she lost all the weight (weight watchers - over 5 stone in a year) Next thing in her early 40's she was pg naturally - she didn't realise till 5 months as she thought it was the change!
Dieting is really hard and my friends that have done it well have always used something healthy like ww or slimming world. I can't stick to them and I'm a big fan of the atkins diet as I find it easy to stick to but to be fair I only have a stone or so to shift and I am a yo yo dieter so really don't think I would recommend it as a long term solution.
I read Paul Mckenna but you have to chew really slow and I don't have the time

Thanks frosty- and you are right... Time to shift the focus from baby-making to weight-shifting and hopefully the two will go hand-in-hand in 2008! Merry Christmas...
