Norethisterone and ovulation

Hello,

Has anyone used Norethisterone to delay their AF?

I’m wondering if it also delays ovulation or only AF?

I took it to delay my AF for a couple of days away. I know you are supposed to start taking it 3 days before your AF is due but I didn’t. I took it on the first day AF arrived.

AF arrived on 1st Dec (Weds) but it was very light so I started the tablets and it did completely stop my AF. I took the last ones on 3rd Dec (Fri). So I only took them for 3 days.

My AF then arrive yesterday 6th Dec so 5 days later than it should have been without the tablets.

I always have heavy AF. It’s light on day 1 and then heavy from day 2 and usually lasts about 7 days. It seems no different this time and I have taken it in the past and haven’t had side effects.

My question now though as I’m now ttc and tracking/testing my ovulation is because I’ve delayed my AF have I also delayed my ovulation?

According to my app if I had my AF on its original date of 1st Dec my ovulation day would have been 14th Dec.

If I now track my new AF dates from 6th Dec it moves my ovulation day to 20th Dec.

I’m going to take tests to try and catch the right days and not just go by the app but I’m not sure if my ovulation day will stay as the original around 14th Dec or if it will now delay to around 20th?

I hope this makes sense!

Has anyone been in this situation and how did it work out for you?

Thanks Smile

Although if my AF lasts 7 days as normal then ovulation on day 14 would only be 2 days after end of AF so I assume that’s too soon? Not sure though with these tablets if they change the whole cycle or only AF. I’ve taken them to delay AF before but haven’t been ttc before so wasn’t tracking ovulation.

It will delay your next ovulation. Norethisterone works in a similar way to progesterone and usually when a period arrives it's because progesterone levels have dropped. Ovulation occurs when estrogen rises but it doesn't rise until the progesterone has gone. So yes ovulation will likely be later in this cycle due to your period being later. All hormones in the cycle are linked so if you change one it will mean there's a change further on down the process.

Good luck TTC!

@kitty1993 Thank you! Yes that makes sense it would work that way but I wasn’t sure. Good luck to you too if you are ttc Smile
