Mirena removal and TTC

Hi all, hoping for some detailed answers lol šŸ™šŸ»

I’m due my mirena out tomorrow and I’m terrified 😩 can anyone tell me in step by step detail what happens and what you feel please. Is there anything I can do to prepare for it. I’ve had a baby nearly 9 years ago and ready for another but obviously the coil has to come out first lol.

That’s was the first question šŸ¤“ my next question is what are your experiences of TTC after the mirena? I’ve seen so many stories of people conceiving pretty much the same week and wondered if this was safe to do? We’ll be starting to try pretty much straight away providing the removal doesn’t kill me 🤣

Thanks in advance x

Hi lovely

I had my merina removed on the 17th of this month so I can answer your 1st question 🤣🤣 seriously it's nothing at all to worry about I was the same as you and I was terrified but honestly there was no pain at all it was done and over with in less then 2 minutes,

What happened with me I went into the doctors room and had a chat with her she told me to strip from the waist down and lie up on the bed I done that and she inserted the speculum and removed it, I couldn't believe how quick it was all done and I didn't even feel it coming out. I had very mild cramps about 5 minutes after for about 10 minutes and then I was fine.

The only thing I will say in the last 12 days since getting it out I've been a little up and down and had a few headaches and abit weepy at times 🤣 but I think my hormones are trying to balance themselves but everyone is different so you could be ok

Good luck tomorrow and I hope all goes well for you 😘 xx

Mine was over very fast. Just stripped off and it was over in a couple of mins. No cramps. I had it out in September with the intention of starting ivf in Jan (due to my husbands cancer).

Had my first period two weeks later, then three weeks after thst and then settled into every 4 weeks by November-December. Started ivf and had a round in Jan and March to freeze eggs. Then got pregnant accidently end of April/start of May. Now 31 weeks :)

Mine came out 3 weeks ago. Zero pain. Period started within 2 days, lasted 7 days. 2 days no bleeding, and then 5 more days bleeding. Ovulated 21 days after mirena came out.

Good luck šŸ€

Thanks so much for your replies ladies ā¤ļø

Excuse the TMI question but did you not feel anything when they started pulling the strings? I feel there should be some sort of feeling when that happens lol, when I was feeling for the strings to check them I think I accidentally tugged it a bit and felt a very very small feeling which I want to describe as a slight burning feeling but I know that’s not the right word lol! Xx

I had mine out last week, honestly painless, quick tug and job done ! I’d been putting it offf for ages but honestly was fine !

YokoOnosHat · 30/11/2021 19:40

It doesn’t hurt at all to come out and it only took about ten seconds.

I bled a lot after- for probably three weeks and quite heavily. I then suffered from thin endometrial layer and it took me 8 months to get pregnant. After three months with no periods (after the mega bleed) I had a scan and my endometrial layer was virtually nothing. I think it took the full 8 months to grow back properly. I had Accupuncture to help thicken it- who knows if it worked but had it about 6 weeks before I got my positive, twice a week.

Daisydolly1986 · 01/12/2021 07:53

I did feel it come out, it was a tugging feeling but was completely painless for me

Ok so I got my appt date wrong šŸ™„ my appt is tomorrow so more stressing about the removal 😭 my husband is being deployed in 5 weeks for 3 months, what do you think our chances are of conceiving before he leaves 😩 I’m due to ovulate in the next few days so it’s the last chance before he goes šŸ˜ž

Anymore removal stories please I’m literally terrified about what I’ll feel 😭

Hi! So, some nice news for you. My mirena came out on the 11th November and I am now very early pregnant. So take your vitamins, track ovulation to make sure you don't miss your chance, and fingers crossed.
mumofEandE · 04/12/2021 19:26

I have had a Mirena coil for about 18 years (obviously changed during that time!)
I conceived my DD within weeks of it being taken out.
No problems when this happened at all - Good Luck Smile

DontWantTheRivalry · 04/12/2021 23:22

With my first child, I conceived a few weeks after having the Mirena out.

With my second pregnancy, I again conceived a few weeks after the Mirena came out but sadly I miscarried 2-3weeks after my positive pregnancy test.

My GP told me that in some circumstances, because the endometrium wall is so thin as a result of the coil (hence it dramatically reducing period flows or stopping them altogether), that getting pregnant straight away means the fertilised egg doesn’t have enough of an endometrium wall to burrow into and so the pregnancy can’t be sustained.

I have no idea how true it is.

Personally I wasn’t convinced and thought the GP was just trying to placate me or make me feel better.

Hi hope you don’t mind me jumping on this post. I’m having my Mirena out on Monday to TTC #3 (DD 16 from previous relationship and DD 11 with my husband) I had a mirena before #2 and it took 11 months for us to get pregnant, this time I’m 35 and DH is 43 so we are expecting things to be a lot harder this time.

That rings true for me. I had 4 faint BFPs, now nothing when I test. I think it was a chemical pregnancy. I feel like AF is due too.
