Terrified I'm going to lose ovaries

Sorry, this is quite a long one but need to get this off my chest.

So I had mild symptoms in Aug but in Sept i had every pregnancy symptom under the sun (backache, nausea, metallic taste in mouth and weird feelings in my stomach and sides). I went to the walk in as I wasn't able to get a doctors appointment and they told me it was ovarian cysts and to 'drink lots of water and they'll fall off' and that I also had a kidney infection.

I followed it up with a call to my doctor as I still didn't feel great a few weeks later and didn't know if I'd need antibiotics for the kidney infection. They took bloods and I was told a doctor would call me back but I didn't hear anything. Instead I called the reception and they told me everything was 'normal'.

I've since been trying to get a face to face appointment with a doctor and it has taken well over 6 weeks. In this time I've still had all of the symptoms of cysts on both sides so I'm guessing they're still there. The symptoms do seem a bit milder although AF is all over the place. It's never usually more than 2 days long anymore and this month was a week early.

I'm finally in to see them on Thursday to push for an ultrasound as I've not been offered one yet. I'm terrified that whilst I'm waiting around it's going to grow and cause irreversible damage to both my ovaries. I'm 6 months off 35, have no children and I also feel like time is ticking.

I'm frustrated that at no point as anyone suggested checking not just how big the cysts are, but that there's nothing else going on that could have caused them in the first place. I'm honestly absolutely terrified as we've only just started TTC (I suspect coming off birth control this time last year is what has kicked this all off as I'm ovulating again for the first tine in 12 years).

Please can anyone reassure me that it's rare that there will be any complications, or tell me I need to grow some balls and get it fast tacked because I've seemingly been fobbed off and have waited around for long enough already.

Thanks in advance.

I am so confused. So you’ve not actually seen a Doctor yet at all? But they’ve diagnosed you with both ovarian cysts and a kidney infection? And that the cure was to drink water?! This is going to help with a kidney infection but not cysts. I’m not entirely convinced that you have either on the basis of your symptoms. I think you should definitely push your GP for some answers. However, even if you have cysts there’s no magical treatment I’m afraid. They’re highly unlikely to operate if you still want to have children as your ovaries are delicate and surgery can upset them into not working. If your fertility is your main concern then I’d tell your GP that you’ve been TTC for a year and get a referral for that. In my area the NHS waiting list is about a year for an initial fertility consultant appointment but over two years for gynae.

The walk in centre diagnosed cysts and a kidney infection during the same visit based on a feel of my stomach, but no more than that. I had a subsequent phone appointment with my GP and bloods for my kidneys were normal but they've didn't get back to me to suggest what it was.

I know there's no magic cure, but I guess I'm after some reassurance about whatever is going on, because at the moment I'm just left with Google and I'm getting inside my own head.

Because I'm quite an anxious person anyway it's quite hard to know if I need to chill out and hope it goes by itself, or be a bit more pushy about getting a referral to a gyno.

And yes, I was told that If I drink plenty of water the cysts will 'drop off'!
