TTC after Recurrent Miscarriage

Hey Ladies,

I'm wanting some advice if possible.
I've just suffered a miscarriage this week at 6 weeks. This is my 3rd this year (I had one in April at 7 weeks and one in September at 5 weeks).

As I've now had 3 consecutive miscarriages it means that I have been referred to a specialist to have tests done to see what is going on.

My issue is that the appointment for the doctor is likely to be 8 weeks away at least and then I'll have to wait for results (I have no idea how long this will take) and I just really don't want to wait to keep trying. Am I silly to think like this?

From what I read, it seems it's more likely that results come back to showing nothing wrong rather than highlighting an issue. So should I just keep trying and see?

Feel it's important to note that I have a 17 month old son who was conceived the first month we tried and breezed through pregnancy. Am I just having a bout of bad luck?

Gahhh my head is like scrambled egg Confused TIA x

Hi OP. I can totally relate to your post. I am very sorry for your losses. It’s really tough. We have had 1 MMC and 2 chemical pregnancies since March. We are currently undergoing to fertility testing. My bloods came back fine so waiting on the other half to do his bit. Our appointment with the recurrent miscarriage consultant is the 23rd of December. I have a 2.5 year old and we fell pregnant the first time like yourself. Would you consider getting the bloods done by your GP in the wait time for your appointment?

@Tinypeanut1224 sorry to hear about your losses, my most recent MC was at the end of June, that was number 3 so I was reffered to RMC i was originally told the waiting list was 10 weeks, my appointment is actually at the end of November so it was 5 months from referral to first appointment, so you may be waiting longer than 8 weeks. I have recently found out I am pregnant again so I have contacted and they still want to see me at my appointment, they will give me a reassurance scan and I'll stay under their care for a while. She also said if this pregnancy ends in MC i won't need another referral so you'll stay in the system and avoid another 5 month wait. So it still leaves you in a good position if you fall pregnant while waiting for your appointment

Hey @Hopefull1981 - thank you so much for replying and I'm so sorry for your losses. It's so rubbish isn't it but also having a child already is a great distraction.
It's great news that your blood are clear (there's nothing wrong) although doesn't help you understand why this is happening. Fingers crossed you RMC appointment can shed some light.

I think I'll contact my GP tomorrow and ask for an appointment. Do you know what I should be asking for? What would they usually test for as a starting point?

I think we'll also keep trying in the meantime. I obviously don't want to suffer another miscarriage but stopping trying doesn't sit well with me? X

Oh the terrible twos are in full swing here. I had day 3 and day 21 bloods done. She also did an AMH test. I also had a TV ultrasound but don’t know the outcome of that until Tuesday. The consultant would run these tests anyway but it’s good to have them out of the way on the day and can start looking at what’s wrong. My GP was like you are just having a run of bad luck and to keep trying 🤯.

Like you we will keep trying in the meantime. Think I am 1 day DPO now.

Hi @ChinChilly sorry to hear about losses. Congrats on your current pregnancy. Hope you can relax a bit.

Tinypeanut1224 · 14/11/2021 13:44

@Hopefull1981 - ok great, thanks for letting me know what tests they do. I just want to go in with as much information as I can and ask for what I need just in case my GP isn't as helpful as I've heard some are.

'A run of bad luck' doesn't seem like a good enough excuse but also in the same breath, I hope that is all it is for both of us and we get our rainbow babies as soon as possible. Fingers crossed for this cycle for you!

@ChinChilly - sorry for your losses too love, it seems there are so many of us suffering this heartache. Thanks for the heads up about the appointment, who knows how long it will take so I think you're right to keep trying. Also congratulations on your pregnancy, I really really hope that this one sticks for you! Xxx

@Hopefull1981 @Tinypeanut1224 thanks both, I'm feeling abit anxious and obsessively taking tests lol but just taking each day as it comes at the moment and keep telling myself this is a different pregnancy.

I think getting into the system with the recurrent miscarriage clinic is probs the best thing to do. I've read most miscarriage happen because of chromosomal abnormalities so the chances are there isn't anything wrong but they will also give you early reassurance scans
