Does anyone know about sperm washing

I have 2 dds but dh doesnt want another girl, I think he will feel out numbered. I have heard that the sperm can be washed so that all the boys go to one side and the girls go to the other, they then give you the sex of the sperm you need to get a boy/girl.
Or any good tips about how to conceive a boy?

Got this from my pregnancy book (please take with a pinch of salt because if Posh Spice couldn't engineer a girl with all her money & medical experts then it probably cant be done)
For a Boy :

  1. Douch with dilute baking soda.
  2. Abstain from sex until after you have ovulated.
  3. Have an orgasm - COOL!!
  4. Your parter should use deep penetration and ejaculate as deep inside you as possible.
  5. Partner should wear loose fitting underwear, drink caffeinated coffee and have a cold shower before intercourse.

??????? Dont ask me why, its what the books says, don't think I believe it though!

As a lady desperately desperately ttc #1 I'm always saddened when those that can have children start with all this gender selection etc. I'm not mad at you Looby, but your dh should appreciate just how lucky he is to have what he has and that he has the opportunity for you both to be blessed with another.

If he really strongly doesn't want a girl, then I'd say don't have a baby. There is no foolproof method of conceiving a girl outside a high tech fertility lab and involving embryo selection. I think if a parent regards a child as unwanted even before it is born, that's a pretty bad start in life.

tell dh that if he wants another kid he'll have to love it whatever sex it is. dh wants a boy as he feels outnumbered, but i know if we have another girl he wont be disapointed, he'll just buy her a everton footy kit anyway.

I think a slight preference or a wish for one sex is fine, btw, so long as it no more than that.

if you want to have fun trying, but know he wont be disappointed if they dont work, there are some diets/old wives takes that might work.

You need a book by Hazel Chesterman-Phillips - I forget the title - something like How to Choose the Sex of your Baby - the Natural Way. I don't promise it works - it would help if you have regular cycles, but boys are supposed to be easier than girls.

I think there's no harm at all in trying to influence the result - at least dh will think you've made the effort for him - as long as you are both 100% happy that it may not work.

PS In answer to your original question - they're not allowed to do sperm washing in this country. You can get it done in some European countries and in US as well I believe but apparently the success rate is no better than using the "natural" method. (That's what I've read anyway).

read an article recently that said that mothers who were happy and had a positive outlook were more likely to conceive boys, probably why my mum has 2 girls!

jeddah · 18/11/2004 20:59

hate to say this girls but, there is no research what so ever to support gender selection
Its all luck!

codswallop · 18/11/2004 21:00

I love having three matching kids btw

aloha · 18/11/2004 21:05

Codswallop, I have just envisaged your 'matching' children with identical side partings and outfits for some bizarre reason, like clones Or do they just match your decor?
