She is so upset, she went to the doctors because her periods had stopped but this is not what she was expecting to hear. She really wants to start ttc. Can you tell me your happy stories about ttc with Polycystic ovaries. She is being referred to a specialist but could really do with a boost right now. THANKS!

I have pcos and never had any problems conceiving...my daughter is now 14 months old. Please tell her not to worry - it's very treatable for most people and there are drugs to help kick start ovulation and diet helps too (low gi). Verity is an organisation that helps - google it and you'll get loads of useful info.

just to add, I think if you have to have a fertility condition, this is one of the better ones. I remember drs saying lots of doom-laden things to me about fertility but there really are lots of options.

My Sister was told she would never have Children for this reason (obviously a really good GP ). A year later she discovered she was 20 weeks PG She had just thought she had Flu and had put on some wieght

She took time to concieve DS2 but only 18m or so.

So it can happen!

My DH's ex gf has PCOS.
When they were together, she was desparate to have a baby, so she started fertility treatment, which didn't work, so she stopped it. DH wasn't that keen on becoming a father at that time anyway because financially he was struggling, he'd only just left uni, no job prospects where they were living, so he decided to go to London to find work. They mutually decided to end the relationship,as she didn't want to go to London, though stayed friends.
After they had split up,they occasionally met up for Old Times Sakes sex. Despite the fact doctors told her she would not conceive without help, she discovered she was pg. Her dss (my dss) is nearly 7 years old!

My sister has PCOS, thought she couldn't have children afer trying for several years. Lost lots of weight and now the mother of a gorgeous little girl. THe weight is relevant as it really does make a difference with this condition - but PCOS makes you put on weight so you have to work twice as hard at it as anyone else, I'm afraid.

There's a great book by Colette Harris, a medical journalist who has PCOS herself, which your friend might find helpful.

I had PCOS diagnosed at uni and when I came off the pill a few years later my periods stopped for 9 months. Silly GP tried to tell me I was preg. Referred to a specialist, had five tablets of clomid and was preg!! Now have four dcs, first three in three and a half years and one eight years later at 38! Hope that helps!

Hi MrsJones

About one in every five women have polycystic ovaries - its a very common condition.

I have PCOS and am now a parent. It can take longer to conceive with this condition but it is not impossible at all. It is certainly not a complete barrier to conception.

I would suggest that your sister gets knowledgeable re PCO as it will help her with regards to dealing with the hospital. Verity is a good website for women with PCOS and offers support - its www.verity-pcos.org.uk.

I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries about 10 years ago, and conceived dd1 the first time we tried, and dd2 14 months after dd1 was born. no trouble.

PetitFilou1 · 13/12/2007 13:35

My boss has it - she was told she'd never have children. She now has a 2 3/4 old dd. She also got pregnant recently (in her 40s) but unfortunately the pregnancy wasn't viable which is very sad.

But clearly she can have children!
