Confused over best time to get pregnant

springseason22 · 07/11/2021 02:38

Hello...

DH and I are trying to conceive.

I'm using an APP to try and predict when my most fertile window is and I can honestly say it's not worked 😣...as in when exactly is my fertile window.

My cycle is normally 24:26 days ...and it says 14 days after START of period.

Is that right?

Any tips and advice much appreciated

Firstly I'll say I am no expert...

If your cycle is regular you are usually most fertile mid cycle, so with yours it's very likely to be between days 11 and 15. I had a 28 day cycle, so for me it was days 12 to 16. I'm fairly certain all three of my children were conceived on ovulation day or the day after, so day 14 or 15.

To give yourself the best chance I reckon you should be timing sex for a day or two earlier than the day 14 your app is suggesting.

When I was trying to get pregnant apps and opks didn't exist, back then we went by the traditional sign which is a change in cervical mucus. When it's really stretchy, like egg white, that's a sign you are about to or have just ovulated. When it gets thick and sticky, it's a sign that your fertile time is over for that month.

Best of luck, hope it happens for you soon.

The app sounds like it is basing it off a typical 28 day cycle. Ovulation typically is 14 days before your new period starts so cd10 to 12 for you but not everybody has a 14 day luteal phase (time between ovulation and start of period) so it's hard to predict exactly. It would be worth picking up some cheap ovulation test strips. Amazon do them really cheap.

Moonshine160 · 07/11/2021 09:14

Day of ovulation can vary from cycle to cycle and isn’t the same for every woman regardless of how long your cycle is, an app only predicts it based on the “average”. The only way you’re going to know is by taking ovulation tests, I just use cheap ones from Amazon or eBay. Also track your cervical mucus as you’re best off DTD on your fertile days.

Hirewiredays · 07/11/2021 09:18

I was always earlier between 6 to 7 days rather that the 12 to 14 days indicated.

puddleduck234 · 07/11/2021 09:22

Quit the app. Take ovulation tests (cheap ones from Amazon.)

It took me 6 months to realise the app had completely different ovulation time to when I was actually ovulating. Plus instead of adding pressure (which is why I was against ovulation tests to begin with) it relaxed me, coz I knew when I was DTD for fun or to conceive.

springseason22 · 07/11/2021 10:23

I have tried ovulation tests and always comes up with a circle ⭕️☹️.....

I try to listen to my body...I feel a temperature rise sometimes and wonder if that's after ovulation?

I just can't seem to figure it out and feel like everyone's using ovulation tests with success

Pant snot is reliable.
when you have vaginal discharge that stretches between your fingers like eggwhites you are good to go

if you are asking about timing then the window to get pg is between 5days before and 12-24 hours after ovulation.
the 5 days before is difficult to judge but sperm can survive that long so bear that in mind.

ChocolateRiver · 07/11/2021 10:32

I think I ovulate earlier than average so if it’s the same for you you could be missing your most fertile point by a couple of days. Maybe go for it from around day 10 onwards.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 07/11/2021 10:35

do you ever get tinges or cramps on one side when you ovulate? they'd alternate each month.

I only started getting them after I'd had a few kids, never before DS1, but I know people who have always had them!

ShowOfHands · 07/11/2021 10:53

Can you have sex every 2-3 days from the end of your period? That way you'll cover your fertile period, take off the pressure and not medicalise a natural process.

I did chart and take my temp but after a few losses and a lot of trying. Some of the info on here simply would have been wrong for me and I'd have struggled to conceive if I'd followed it.

Mummytobe93 · 07/11/2021 11:13

@springseason22 sorry to hear you’re struggling

As @ShowOfHands hands said, try to have sex every other day after your period. If
That’s too much I’d highly recommend using cheap OPKs (such as these www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DOJG6RA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_07XA04V8F5VHM2E82B9T?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 ) and using them along with the premom app, which tells you if it’s low, high or peak. When it’s high it’s time to DTD every other day until it goes back to low again.
If you get low all the time I’d speak to your GP

2021mumma · 07/11/2021 11:15

Get some ovulation sticks- I used clearblue ones.

I started relying on the app abs nothing was happening, using the ovulation sticks I found out the app was completely wrong in terms of my peak fertility time.

Was glad I did this and didn’t continue for months on the app as got pregnant almost straightaway after using sticks

Iszzy · 10/11/2021 03:12

@springseason22

How long have you been TTC so far?

Ovulation tests only decrease the time to natural pregnancy slightly, although they are great at letting you know if something is not right (ie see a Doctor).

@ShowOfHands That's a great tip.

springseason22 · 10/11/2021 12:10

6 months...

Squiff70 · 10/11/2021 14:34

What have you been classing as day one of your cycle? I'm wondering if that's where you might be going wrong (if you are!). The day your period starts is considered day one usually (unless your period starts late at night, then you can class the next day as day 1). I expect you'll be ovulating around 10-13 days after the day your period starts but it could be a little earlier.

Use OPKs to track from the day after your period stops and take it from there.

Good luck!

Juno231 · 10/11/2021 14:39

Just have regular sex every two days from day 9-10 through to day 18 and you'll be covered.

If you're not understanding how to use clearblue ovulation tests then maybe just use simple ones like femometer from amazon.

Iszzy · 10/11/2021 15:31

@springseason22

If it hasn't happened by the 12th month, please go see your GP and demand all the tests for you and your DH.

Say you've been TTC for 18+ months, in case your GP follows the "24 month rule" before any tests.

Hopefully you don't need to.

Halo
Juno231 · 10/11/2021 17:12

@springseason22 @Iszzy you just need to check your CCG requirements. Nearly all of them go by 12 months TTC

Firsttimetrier · 11/11/2021 07:21

Hi @springseason22 I had to watch a couple of TTC videos on YouTube at the start of my journey because it is so confusing!

They all advised that period day 1 is the day you start bleeding. You then need to count back 14 days from the start of your predicted period and this will give you your ovulation date. So for you, it would be around cycle day 10-12.

To make sure you are covered, your fertile window starts 4 days before ovulation and two days after. So I would recommend DTD every other day from cycle day 6 until cycle day 14.

Iszzy · 11/11/2021 08:14

@Firsttimetrier

Your day of ovulation actually varies a lot.... even in perfectly normal women.

fertilityscience.org/what-a-positive-then-negative-ovulation-test-means/

That's why DTD every other day for 8 or so days around the middle of your cycle generally works fine.

Halo
redxlondon · 11/11/2021 08:35

If you’ve tried ovulation sticks each day through your cycle and it’s never shown fertility I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor and getting your hormone levels checked. Good luck x
