Using combined pill for 3 months to regulate periods

Hello, im just seeing if anyone else has ever been prescribed the combined pill to regulate their periods in preparation to bring back a somewhat normal cycle to start conceiving

I came off the contraceptive injection in March 2020, since then i've had very irregular spotting and bleeding for months on end until this September where i had a period so it seemed. Since this period in september, i've have a period ever 12 days lasting 3 days or so

due to this my doctor has prescribed me the combined pill for 3 months to try and help my cycle regulate once i'm finished with it. However, i feel like i've come 20 months down the line and may as well wait longer to see if my body can still get back into a cycle on it's own. I don't want to add hormones in again when i've been trying to get rid of the extra ones for so long

also i didnt get on with the combined pill when i first when on it back in 2015 and the injection was the only form that worked for me without annoying side effects until i came off of it.

would like to hear if anyone else has experienced this

I've seen this being recommended a couple of times by doctors but if this is your GP saying it I honestly wouldn't follow these instructions. GPs often have a shocking understanding of how fertility works...

From what I gather the pill will only mask your symptoms and not in any way resolve them so I'd be reluctant to go on it.

Yeah this is my worry, and i use to get thrush and UTIs when taking the combined so i don't want to deal with that again either

I just don't know what other way to help my body regain its normal cycle again, i was pretty regular before going on contraception

Also, this is the last resort from the GP, she's referred me for an ultrasound which i had and everything was normal, my blood tests have been normal so it is at the minute just an hormonal imbalance from coming off the injection effecting my cycle

@abs1906 did you get the results from the blood tests? Again I wouldn't trust a GP saying it's just normal 😅. Could it be endometriosis? Definitely get a referral in for a fertility clinic, hopefully they can then put you on some medicated cycles to ovulate properly and perhaps with a progesterone supplement to prevent the spotting/support your LP.

@Juno231

Yeah i've seen my blood results and the levels of each hormones, they are all within normal parameters,

my ultrasound would have picked up Endometriosis, PCOS or Fibroids and the technician said anything that would have caused irregular bleeding wasn't to be found, i've had swabs that have come back normal, my cervix is healthy, literally everything they could physically see was healthy

My ovaries were fine too, i'm not actively trying to conceive currently, we have a holiday booked next year so we want to get that out of the way but i want 6 months really of a regular cycle where i'm ovulating to make me feel comfortable to start trying

Because i've not actively tried to get pregnant yet my GP won't refer me to a fertility clinic and i don't mind, i rather someone who needs it gets my spot, she offered to refer me to a Gyno but it would be weeks and she was unsure if they could do anymore

my GP is really nice and is a woman and i've been dealing with her for 6 months now, we are just trying one thing after the next just to help me return to my cycles

My bleeding isnt heavy either, i have no cramping or in any pain with sex or whilst bleeding, there is nothing there making me feel like there is something wrong, i do believe its just my hormones still balancing out, i was on some form of contraception for 5 years before i came off, and the injection is the longest form of contraception to return to fertility afterwards, with it can taking up to 24 months

My symptoms have changed constantly since December last year with brown spotting, maybe some light bleeding, but nothing enough to wear anything more than a pantyliner. Since september it's what i would class as a period flow of bleeding, i'm having to wear pads now

@abs1906 ah I see I thought you were TTC. Doesn't hurt to get that gynae referral regardless - you can always cancel it if it sorts itself out first. I would say though that ultrasounds don't really pick up on endometriosis - you'd need a laparoscopy for that.

@Juno231

Yeah I don't have any symptoms for endometriosis at all so I really doubt it, my bleeding isn't heavy and no pain at all with anything

I hope it just does sort itself out lol
